Has anyone seen the bride sing at her own wedding before?? If so, how was she recieved? If not, what do you think?

I have a fairly nice voice and would definetly practice a lot with my band ahead of time. But I wanted to sing Norah Jones' "Come Away With Me" as a romantic surprise to my husband-to-be. I know he would like it, but I'm worried about how the guests in general will appreciate it. It's my wedding, but I don't want people to say I'm the weirdo bride who tried to go all American-Idol at her wedding!

Any comments, advice, suggestions appreciated!!

Hey!! CONGRATULATIONS on your upcoming nuptials! I wish you and your groom a lifetime of joy together!

Now to your question: I've seen one wedding where the bride sang. To be honest, it was a bit weird. It kind of jarred the rhythm of the whole ceremony. I think part of the problem was that she was singing to "her audience" rather than her groom.

Having said that, however, don't let my personal opinion on the subject sway you from what YOU want to do. Your wedding is something that you and your husband-to-be should plan together. It's about the two of you. Don't worry what others think. But do sing it *to* your husband, rather than everyone else who is there. "Come Away With Me" is a fantastic song!! And your groom should be able to look into your eyes as you surprise him with such a nice gift. : )

P.S. My favorite lyric in that song is "And I want to walk with you on a cloudy day...in fields where the yellow grass grows knee high..." So sweet and romantic. : )

Even if you don't consider yourself an emotional person (read that CRIER), you may be very surprised at the sweeping feelings that will overtake you on your wedding day! Perhaps you will not be able to perform in the midst of such an incredible experience. However, it is so lovely that you want to sing for your husband. Consider recording your tribute beforehand and playing it on the Big Day. You'll achieve the desired result (romantic surprise), without the added stress.
Congratulations and God Bless your union!

I think it's romantic that you would do this, but I don't think you should do that at the ceremony, I would do it at the Reception, as a lot of your guest's will not attend the actual Wedding and miss out on your Special Surprise to your Groom, think about it... all the Guest's will be at your Reception and you could make this a Special part of your Bridal Dance. Congratulation's To You and Your Fiance'.

LWF is right.....
it gets tacky when people start Performing at their wedding..... been to a couple that have done that or had a relative sing, play an instrument.... people all say the same... takes up too much time and you look like a show off.

I don't think you should do it if your voice is just fairly nice. Those poor guests don't want to watch this. They came to see a wedding not dinner and a show. A wedding is a sacred ceremony not night at the Apollo.

Go for it. It's your wedding. I've seen it done and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Your groom will love it. Sing your heart out.

Don't worry about what people say. It's your day and your memory.

Are you wanting to sing at the actual ceremony?? I think that it would be really cute at the reception. It would be a really sweet surprise for your husband. Good luck and Congrats!

I had thought long and hard about doing this too, as I sing and play guitar. However, then I realized I would be way too nervous. Then I thought about putting it on tape. Then I totally dismissed the idea.
If you're brave enough, go for it!
