which would you think is better? Being presented with the traditional light blue gift box and white ribbon? Or the ring box open and the ring right before your eyes?

It's a tough judgment call. I can't decide. I know either way will be great, but I just wanted a woman's opinion.

You should open the box and have the ring glowing. This way it will be more of a suprise. If she sees the blue box , she'll know what it is. I also agree with some of the other answers. It's what you say and love.

It's great that the ring comes from Tiffany's, but it shouldn't matter where the ring comes from as long as you both love each other. My opinion would be to open the box while proposing, it's really romantic and with your love and a beautiful ring she'll care less about a blue box with the white ribbon.

Tiffany's has beautiful diamonds for sure, but in reality you are paying a huge mark-up for the blue box. If she is a name brand kind of girl, it might make a difference to her. I have done a lot of research on diamonds (Tiffany's actually has some great info on thier website) and for the size, cut, clarity and color that my fiance gave me, he would have paid a LOT more for essentially the same ring b/c it comes in "The Blue Box." He ended up buying the ring from my family jeweler. The jeweler went to the NYC diamond district and brought back several for him to choose from, then had it set in a platinum 6 prong setting. I get asked all the time "Is that a Tiffany?" The bottom line is, unless you take the ring off and look for the Tiffany stamp on the inside, no one is going to know. Go to a trusted jeweler and spend the $$ you would have spent on the box and get her a bigger diamond. Diamonds hold thier value more than cardboard,,,,I assure you. Best of luck!

I agree with what everybody else is saying in that it is all about the love and the proposal and not just the ring.

BUT, hello, it's Tiffany's! (By the way, excellent decision on your part) You show a girl that Tiffany Blue Box AND a ring - wow. That's almost like two gifts in one.

So, my vote is for the blue box... congrats on the engagement!

Umm... It depends!! I always like getting the blue box, but for an engagement ring I think you should open it right before there eyes!! It's more romantic I guess!!

Obviously you want her to know it's from Tiffany's or you wouldn't have asked the question.
Take her out for a romantic dinner and when she goes to the restroom, which most of us do... put it on the table at her place setting. Then when she gets back, sees the blue box and gasps "Oh my, honey...it's from Tiffany's!"... get up, get on one knee and open it and put it on her finger.
I hope it IS great for you, but more than that, I wish you a wonderful life of MARRIAGE together.
15 wonderful years, here. My hubby took out a small loan to buy my diamond and had it set. I never suspected a thing. It wasn't from Tiffany's, but I was so surprised I probably wouldn't have remembered that anyway.
You're sweet. Good luck, baby.

Hmmm, Are you doing this for Christmas? I guess with it open and you on your knee saying something romantic. How about dropping it in a glass of champagne. Just pray she see's it first.LOL. Not sure where you live but your could take her for a carriage ride around the city and do it then. Either way it will be a good thing... Congrats!!

My husband proposed to me out of the blue, by falling to one knee and presenting me with the box, opening it as he "popped" the question - I felt that it was very traditional and romantic - it really all depends on your special someone really. Good luck, and congratulations!!

Box open. When it comes down to it - its the ring she is going to care about - not the box.
