what is your reaction about the wedding tradition of the filipino?

I don't really know the traditions, but have a friend that married in the Phillipines. He was pissed off that all the girl's family and friends didn't come to the wedding, but showed up for the reception (he found out from his Phillipino mother that it happens a lot). Also, what would typically cost $15,000 in America for a wedding, he spent a little over $5,000.
