Me and my daughter are physically seperated from eachother & I have not seen her since spring break in March! I miss her very much & so does she, we don't get to talk very often about once or twice a week on the phone. her Daddy is very well off & can afford anything so she has about all the toys her heart desires...I got her an american girl for her birthday in October, I would really love to get her something special that will show how much i care about her! Any ideas? The best i could think off was a necklace or a charm bracelet so she can start collecting charms... any mom's with 6 yr old lil princesses out there that could give me some advice?

I still have a year and a half until I turn 18. My parents are not good parents, they are divorced, my dad has a horrible temper calls me horrible names. My mom screams and also has a horrendous temper and her boyfriend is an abusive drunk. My question is when I turn 18, I mean the day I turn 18, will my mother no longer have custody of me. for example, I could say F*** you I am moving and she could do nothing about it whatsoever

I have very difficult in-laws that I will be spending Christmas with. There are a few of them that attempt to control the day by being crabby, complaining and being selfish. My sister in law and I get very frustrated.
Without causing a major ruckus, how can we sail through this day with style and grace?
We don't want them to think they have won.

My wife got divorced last year and married me a few months ago. Her ex has a bad job that he won't get rid of that requires him to work on Saturdays. In the meantime, he takes them over to my wife's father's house for free babysitting every Saturday.

On one side, they are his grandchildren, but we're happy to let him see the kids through us. I think it's inappropriate to have the ex using my wife's family as his personal day care. I know for a fact that if it weren't for needing the free babysitting, he wouldn't take them over there at all.

On top of it all, my new father-in-law hasn't even spent any time with us in the last 8 months, but sees his ex-son-in-law every other weekend as he does him this favor.....

MY husband and I both work full time and make ok money. We have 3 children, one with a very expensive medical problem. We have done our best to keep up with the bills but we have fallen behind and it has taken all our money to keep basic nessesities, roof car..etc. I was trying to explain that we might have less under the tree this year to my children when my youngest said to me, Dont worry mommy..Santa will bring the presents, you dont need money. If only things worked this way...lol. It was sweet and I cant figure out how to tell my boys..5.7.9 that Santa simply cant afford christmas presents this year?

Recently I was putting them to bed while there mother was out. They started to play up and generally ignored me, I found my self asking them repeatedly, I tried distraction, the soft approach, and negotiation, I wont bribe or get angry, I am an assertive parent but I fear that one day they are going to say you cant make me your not my dad. What can I do to make them see me as a figure of authority, befor its too late?

About 4 Months ago my boyfriend ,of 2 years, asked me if I wanted to go to Mexico with him and his family for Christmas. Well I have been telling my mom since my boyfriend has told me, she said yes but NOW she is telling me that "It would be breaking tradition". Oh, and my dad doesn't even know. I have spent every single holiday with them, and I still LIVE under their roof. So how am I supposed to tell my parents I am going to go, without hurting their feelings?

Why on earth should kids only have their dad's surname, in this day and age?

The mother is invariably the one who carries the child for 9 months, goes through the birth process, and after that she is frequently the one who does most of the hard work!

Yes, I always get Angry easily.

I need some tips on letting it out. My sisters won't listen sometimes and I get angry at just very little things. I got 2 twin sisters who are 7 years and one 4 year old sister.

Why do you think I get angry so easily? Every single day I get angry. Its not normal I dont think. I am better at like a friends house but when I see my sisters I all of a sudden get VERY angry.

Please Help!

We've told them they need to call first, but they never do. I think they know that if they do, we may say we'll be busy or make plans to not be there, so they just show up unannounced at ANY time during the weekend. We live fairly close to them. Since we see them so often, there isn't much to talk about, so the visits are somewhat awkward, yet my folks insist that my family must stop whatever we're doing and play host to them for as long as they decide to stay- which is anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
What should we do?

I have always been the most responsible among all my siblings and I try my best not to disappoint my parents. This paid off as I am quite successful now. Problem with me is I get affected everytime my brothers screw up. Feels like a heavy cross that I have to carry everytime... I just want to turn a blind eye sometimes and live my life without being emotionally affected. Is this selfish? I always think that I have to share my parents' burdens...

When I was 13 I did some of those immature stuff stuff many teens do and my parents were too harsh, my father spanked me because I was disrespectful I changed and left a bad crowd, but got so resentful with my parents that I never got over what they did. In my opinion they did'nt act like parents. Since then I never got in trouble again and even made them proud of me, though never made up with them. Today, 10 years later, graduated, with a good job and still studying Chemistry, I have the same opinion. We never made up, avoid talking to them, haven't seen them for more almost 2 years. When my father spanked me, and my mom supported him, I swore I'd never make up withy them and I was for real. But now they want me back, keep calling and writing me, want me to spend this Christmas with them. But I have my principles. Some people say it's my duty to make up with them, but I don't think so. Why a duty?

He´s been really nice to my family. We´ve just moved and he helped us find a car, find a school, find my mother a job, and he also took me and my brother on fun trips so we wouldn´t get bored. I only have about 50$ left, and I´m willing to spend it all. Should I spend it all on a meaningful present or will a nice, small present suffice?
