He´s been really nice to my family. We´ve just moved and he helped us find a car, find a school, find my mother a job, and he also took me and my brother on fun trips so we wouldn´t get bored. I only have about 50$ left, and I´m willing to spend it all. Should I spend it all on a meaningful present or will a nice, small present suffice?

What you said about your mother's boyfriend is really sweet. I can tell that you really value your relationship. You should spend as much or as little as your are comfortable with in your budget. He will not feel any less loved or appreciated if you spend $10 or $50.

But, make your gift to him very meaningful. Do you have a picture of the two of your together that you could put in a nice frame, or a gift that coincides with something the two of you did together?

Whatever you get for him, make sure you include a handwritten note that says just what you told us, that he's special to you and he's been there for you and you appreciate him. Include that, and it will be the best gift he gets this season.

In our family it's how well a present is wanted and received that is most important; some years I spend quite a lot of money on my mom's presents, and other years I just happen to run into several very nice and unique things at crafts fairs etc that are only a few dollars, but that are just so pretty that they're just perfect anyhow. If you can find something you know he'll like & use for little, by all means get it; if you can find something very cool for a bit more and you can afford it, that'd be great too. Do _not_ buy something expensive that he doesn't need just 'cause it's a big gift; people who do that are either too rich for their own good or just plain silly :P

you can find a meaningful present at any price. don't worry about the cost - go out and find something that you think he'd like and get it for him (even if it's less then $50).

sounds corny, but it really is true - Its the thought that counts. He sounds like a great guy, so good luck!

I would buy him either a gift certificate to the movies (with popcorn and pop included) so that he and your mom can spend some time together and you provide the babysitting part.

You can also buy him a nice bottle of wine or champagne for the New Year celebration.

So glad you have someone so helpful and positive in your life. Best of luck to you all and Merry, Merry.

I dont see the need to spend money on your mother's boyfriend. Thats great that he has been a great help to you and your mom, but if hes just her boyfriend, I dont see any logic in spending a huge amount on him. Give him a nice card and express your thankfulness for what he has done for your family.

What ever amount you can afford its not the cost that counts but the thought beside you can find something for under $50 that would be really nice

i don't know how cheaper a present for a grown up man can be - 50 $ is the cheapest decent one. and he sounds a really decent man. so i say spend all 50 for a nice present. maybe more

A small present would suffice I think, he isn't your boyfriend so I think it will show you care to give him anything nice. Here is a site with some good ideas: http://www.gifts.com/

As little or much as you want - it will probably depend on what you get him - you might see the perfect thing for £/$5 or £/$50. If you are happy to spend what you've got on him go for it. I'm sure he'll be really happy.
