About 4 Months ago my boyfriend ,of 2 years, asked me if I wanted to go to Mexico with him and his family for Christmas. Well I have been telling my mom since my boyfriend has told me, she said yes but NOW she is telling me that "It would be breaking tradition". Oh, and my dad doesn't even know. I have spent every single holiday with them, and I still LIVE under their roof. So how am I supposed to tell my parents I am going to go, without hurting their feelings?

I think it is unfair and selfish of your mother to change her mind so late in the game. If you are over 18, you have every right to go. Please tell her that you would love to carry out the family traditions, but could you please do it on a "pretend" Christmas day? After all, Christmas is only a date on the calendar.

Your mom doesn't want to let you go, but clearly she is being unfair to you. I am the mother of an 18 year old, and if she approached me rationally as you seem to have, I would be thrilled for her to have this opportunity.

Can you get to these documents if your parents don't cooperate?

Travelers must present two forms of valid identification such as a birth certificate or naturalization certificate and a driver's license or other identification issued by a state or official agency.

it's really hard to say because like you said that you still live under their roof so I can understand how you must feel. The way I would approach the situation would be to just tell my dad and my mom what I want to do. Get their advice but in a respectful way remind them that you are dating and you want to be apart of your boyfriend and his family too. Like you said, you've spent every holiday with them, it's time to do something different. You're getting older.

Good luck..

"Mom and Dad - I'm going to Mexico with my bf over Christmas"
No matter what you say or how you say it they're going to be disappointed - just get it over with and go have fun. They're your parents, they'll get over it. In the long run it's not that big of a deal.

Tell them that you've put of telling them for so long because you're afraid of hurting their feeling, but, the trip is really important to you. then offer to have another little Christmas dinner with them when you get back. don't forget to buy them some cool gifts while you're there.
