While I was on the internet today something must have happened and things were downloaded onto my computer. I removed them in the Add/Remove programs list but ever since I keep getting pop ups saying I have viruses, spyware, malware etc. I know I have none of these things as my computer is protected by Norton. I ran a full scan today anyway which showed no threats of any kind but I cant get rid of these bloody pop up balloons!!!!! If I click on them they open up a website asking me to download spyware /malware removal software. I really want to get rid of them because they are driving me nuts but cant! Tried to do a system restore to yesterday but that wont work either. It says Restore Incomplete but gives no reason. Any ideas?

My virus and anti-spywear program had gotten out of date. (I know this is my fault) but by the time I noticed it, it was to late. Now the web page Security Center over-rides my home page and no matter what I do this page pops up. I new Icon showed up in my tool bar at the same time with a real annoying bubble that says I am at risk. I have tried disabling this icon but just keeps coming back everytime I start my machine. PLEASE HELP

I was wondering if you could tell me what kinds of things happen when you have a virus on your computer? I never had a problem and I just want to know to look for.

My account was locked because of some name match, and I want to delete it. Unfortunately I do not know how to do this with ym account locked! So wondering, if you just leave the account locked, will they ever have access to your bank info still. And I want to set up another paypal with the same bank info but ym wife's name, since we have a joined bank account. Can you do that?

My friend has this virus on her computer and I haven't quite figured it out yet.. but, she says it takes IE at least 30 minutes to load and she is completely unable to sign onto any instant messangers or her email.

She says she has done a virus scan, but she does not have any way of removing them. Also, it would be best for a free program. [if not, maybe a trial will work as well?]

Would a program like Avast! Virus Cleaner would be okay?

My computer is going extremely slow...it is full of worms and viruses! And what is worse is that I get some wierd pop ups at time that are not appropriate for younger children (ie downloading free "naughty" suff). As a concerned parent, I would really love to know how I could get rid of these worms and viruses. If you know of any programs I can safely download for free/free to try that could help me, please don't hesitate to tell me! Any help is greatly appreciated!

I know how to do the run and type in msconfig, been there done that. BUT how do I find out what I can disable at startup? There has to be certain ones by looking at them that you know you can get rid of, right? I really prefer not to have to type in every single one in a search to figure out how important it is, so I ask, is there a site that has a list of a bunch of stuff and tells you if you can get rid of it or not? I prefer not to get a million different sites but if there are a couple real good ones to use as reference, I'd greatly appreciate it. AND in the start up, the ones that have a check mark are the only ones running right? So does that mean the ones that don't have a check, I don't need? Is there a way to just delete it all out of there or only be able to disable it?

Also I have programs that I'm not sure I can delete, is there a way to find out about those as well? I've removed the ones I know I don't need but others look like I wouldn't need them. Thanks!! :)

I had Mcafee already on my PC when I bought it. I am not sure what the email username was or the registration info that its asking me, but I need to update the definitions. Can I just buy the software again and pick a new email and registration or somehow do I have to find out what the password was when I first used it?

When you download a "trial" version of antivirus software are you putting yourself at risk? Are they purposely installing virus' on your computer so you, as a concerned and unaware "customer", buy their software in good faith. While they exploit the very cause that they so eagerly fight for?

I know a lot about computer security. One thing that is very effective is using a limited user account. But I want some right that only computer administrators have. Or is there a program that can prevent an administrator from using some features.
