I know how to do the run and type in msconfig, been there done that. BUT how do I find out what I can disable at startup? There has to be certain ones by looking at them that you know you can get rid of, right? I really prefer not to have to type in every single one in a search to figure out how important it is, so I ask, is there a site that has a list of a bunch of stuff and tells you if you can get rid of it or not? I prefer not to get a million different sites but if there are a couple real good ones to use as reference, I'd greatly appreciate it. AND in the start up, the ones that have a check mark are the only ones running right? So does that mean the ones that don't have a check, I don't need? Is there a way to just delete it all out of there or only be able to disable it?

Also I have programs that I'm not sure I can delete, is there a way to find out about those as well? I've removed the ones I know I don't need but others look like I wouldn't need them. Thanks!! :)

Well if you're savvy enough to go into msconfig and fool around then you should be savvy enough to figure out what needs to be on or off. I'm not trying to be smart but msconfig IS a tool for managing your PC.

First off, you can turn EVERYTHING off without affecting the running of anything. In fact I'm sure the PC would run better with everything turned off. For example if you have your messenger or virus protection turned off that doesn't mean it won't work. It just means you will have to manually start it when you're ready to use it (not preferred for virus protection since you might want that on all the time but definately a preferred method for messenger).

Things running in startup are usually there for convenience (except malicious programs) so really you would need to play around with msconfig to figure out what you want turned on or off.

Ever wonder wher sayings come from? well this is the perfect example of "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing"

I do not know where you got the ieda to go into the msconfig and start turning stuff off... nor do I know why you are not satisfied... what I do know is that if you have to ask this question.. then you are NOT (i repeat, not) qualified to be messing around with msconfig.

Clearly you are trying to "tune up" you computer or you were told to look in there for some specific reason... if you are having such issues as to have to turn off tons of things in msconfig or you have so much stuff running in there then you clearly need a professional technician to come troubleshoot your system.

Sure, I know you probably want someone to agree with you and just give you some link... but that's not the way it works.

Whatever is in the startup tab are things YOU installed. So if YOU do not know what YOU installed so that YOU can figure out what YOU should or should not installed.. then only someone sitting AT your computer can figure out how badly YOU have it configured.

Good Luck

I don't know of any? What I do is drag out the command section so you have more room and can see where the files are saved to (C:/... etc).
After it says program files i look at the name eg. bitdefender which is my firewall. I only have 3 programs ticked, and if it something to do with updates untick them.

Hope this helps

Every setup has different startup items, advising you which to go without knowing what you have is a bad idea.
