Well I was playing a game and all of a sudden my comp shut off and i smelled something burning. So I open up my comp and smell, it smelled like it was coming from the power source, so I went and got a diff power source and switched it, it still wouldnt turn on. So I tried a 3rd power source just in case...no go. I used the original power source on another PC, turned on. So I've ruled that out. Now, the motherboard light is not coming on(granted I cannot find it but I'm assuming if it came on it would be pretty noticable[manual is in the closet somewhere]). So now I'm wondering if its possible that its something other than my mobo, and if not, is it possible that my motherboard frying could have damaged other stuff(CPU, RAM, Graphics card...etc). I would like to know if theres a possibility before I start swapping out a hundred things to test.

Thanks, and dont give me elementary advice, dont waste your time. I build computers, I know what I'm doing. Please just comment on the last part

Just curious. When I plug my headphones into the headphone jack on my front panel audio, I get a buzzy kind of static. Once something starts playing, it's not noticeable, but when it's silent, it's extremely irritating. Any ideas?

When I plug anything into the microphone jack of my dell inspiron 9300, it never reads any incoming audio levels. Why won't the microphone jack work? Is there a sound card or something I need? How can I find out? I use the same microphones on my desktop pc and they work fine so one would assume the microphones themselves are not the problem.

I Run windows xp pro on a 40Gb hard drive while I have 4Gb Hard Drive I use for storage (Pictures, Videos, Websites I make, Etc...NO GAMES OR SOFTWARE). Now one minute it will work fine then the next minute it wont detect it...the icon wont appear in "My Computer" I restart the computer and it will detect it again, and sometimes I will have to restart the computer several times to get it to detect again. The 40Gb's Jumper is set to master, and the 4Gb's jumpter is set to slave. The cable isnt bad, I have tried diffrent ones and still works the same. The powersupply is fine because I hear the drive running when turn it on. Seems like though time this problem gets worse. I spent 30 mins last night to get it to detect it and I finnaly got it detected...I got all my stuff onto my 40 gig just incase this 4 gig is going band.

Im wondering if this hard drive is going bad...could this possible? If not is there anything that could be causing this to mess up and how can I fix it.

Okay I have Windows XP on my computer, and when I try to go on it, it says "Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API". Does anyone else have this problem, and can someone give me step by step instructions? Or do I need to take it somewhere to get it fixed or can I do it by myself and not pay a lot of money?

This is a 250GB hard drive that has been working for just under a year on my system and for some reason now it can't be read and is making a ticking noise like a regulator clock, it's not been knocked or tampered with just sitting in my system. Does anyone know how to repair or where I might be able to get it repaired, failing that if I may be able to retreive the data on it.

Help please...
Points to be noted:
-CD drive can be detected, and the comp seems to have the cd drive beeping sounds a lot more than normal
-Black screen, nothing detected on the monitor
-Fans sounds all sound normal
-Previous day, the comp hanged, and after trying to reboot, i have been reaching this point ever since
-Pressing Numlock does not show anything on the keyboard(i suspect this means the system isn't moving on ie;booting to windows)

Please help guys!

My CD drive (CD Writer cd 16 series manufactured by HP) will not read CDs anymore. When I put a CD into the drive, the drive will start to 'read,' and the light starts to blink on the drive. The light doesn't stop blinking and if I leave the CD in the drive for even 5-10 seconds, I cannot open the drive. This has happened once before, but I think that it was luck that it fixed itself. What are some ways to resolve the problem(s) or any ways to diagnose my system to see what the problem is? Thanks and appreciate the help.
