My CD drive (CD Writer cd 16 series manufactured by HP) will not read CDs anymore. When I put a CD into the drive, the drive will start to 'read,' and the light starts to blink on the drive. The light doesn't stop blinking and if I leave the CD in the drive for even 5-10 seconds, I cannot open the drive. This has happened once before, but I think that it was luck that it fixed itself. What are some ways to resolve the problem(s) or any ways to diagnose my system to see what the problem is? Thanks and appreciate the help.

You need a new drive. Bad drivers wouldn't keep you from opening it.

Try a new driver, and if that doesn't work, just invest some money in a new CD drive. They are so cheap now since they've really been replace by DVD drives and Blu-Ray drives. Try microcenter.com for the best bargains/deals.
