OK...I had a failing PSU...so I replaced it. I had to mount it ontop of the case cause I am stubborn and won't let sony win...not relative...but my point stated. Anyways, I plugged it all in, turned on the power...and it had the loading light solid red like it was on and thinking...but nothing happened. Then, I pressed power button to turn it off...but it turned on like normal. It started loading and something popped up stating "abnormal CPU fan speed" or something like that, so I went into the bios, it seemed normal...and the computer doesn't sound weird or anything. It also gave me a permission to proceed if I wanted...so I did. Everything has loaded...and nothing is going weird. But...is it safe? Or...am I ruining the cpu or fan letting it run like it is now? Actually...I just listened to it...and it does sound like its constantly running heavy...does that matter?

my computer is about 5 or 6 years old and i always put the hardrive on the carpet floor....so you know it traps alot of dust. usally when i open it to do stuff i would try to clean it but i only rarely do it so there is alot of dust in there prolly.

so basically my question is do dust on my fan slow down my computer speed? cuz my comp is very slow...when i open a webpage it says loading..... sometimes it after the load it says error...if i clean it will it be normal?

I had to reformat my hard drive and install Windows XP all over again, but now when it boots up, it waits with a message boot from CD, but then it boots from the hard drive anyway. Is there a way to eliminate this problem?

I frequently go to http:/www.tigerdirect.com 's website to check out mother/main boards.
It is dizzying to say the least. Different socket sets, and most of all major price variations. i.e. $69-$250+
I have a P3 I want to eventually replace for light work, media and internet browsing applications. No major stuff like games, CAD, etc.
With that said, I don't need the best. Just something reliable.
Actually I do well with my P3 now, but it's maxed out and it has parts from about 3 or 4 different systems and who knows how long that will last.
Any suggestions, remember I'm on a budget here. I would like to stay well below a grand on this one.

i'm planning on selling my computer to my friends friend, but i have a lot of information on my hard drive, like banking information, every time i make a transaction i use the internet, when i make my income tax,not just my information ,also my family's,you might think just keep the hard drive, but i'm gonna buy another one,one that has 150 gigabyte, because i'm not the only one that uses it,anyways i was reading a little on the internet and i found this program called
Active@ Kill Disk - Hard Drive Eraser ,but my question is,is it the best program to wipe out, clean or whatever the word in so nobody can get that information back from your hard drive, because i heard that formating your hard drive does nothing, i do't know where the hard drive is gonna end up in a couple of years, so i really think it would be really useful not just for me,it'd be useful for all the people who want to to this,if there is a free program that can do this ,if not you can suggest me to buy one.

My PC is a Dell E310, currently running on 2x 256MB, 16Mb buffer, at PC2-3200. The Best Buy website states 667MHz PC2-5300 will work, but I want to know how specifically. What do I need to look for to get things done the right way? Anyone? I'm going for 2gigs for RAM.

I had lightening hit my house and took out my LCD Monitor, and modem. I replaced the modem. Also,I replaced the monitor with an old IBM monitor I had which works,so-so.Now I have no sound.I hooked up speskers but no sound.Went to Pc-Doctor to test them."failed". Tested Microphone,"failed".Tested internal "beep" sound,"Passed".
So, this tells me my sound card can't be gone.It has to do with my speakers, right? The ones I have, have only an "out" hookup wire.that was on another older computer. The ones I had were hooked to the monitor somehow.5.01 surround sound. These are just regular speakers.
I'm not very technical guys,so help out an old lady please.
The test for "speakers" gave a code:Sc317-12.
The test for "microphone" gave code:Sc316-12.
Can you tell me what they mean?
Oh,I have a HP Pavilion a635w...Thanks guys for any help..Ladybug
PS.Feel free to e-mail me through my profile..
