Check if your sound card drivers are installed properly and install them if they are not then go to the manufactur's website and get them.
to check:
start -> settings -> control panel -> system -> hardware tab -> device manager. If you see any yellow exclimation marks on your audio card here's the issue. If you don't see your audio card there then windows has a more serious issue and you'll need to open your computer to make sure the sound card is indeed firmly connected.

Probably your computer came with a CD for the audio software .Re install that utility software and try. Normally every pc has the audio card these days so it is probable that the Audio software has gone off.

find your soundcard documentation or your computer documentation.if it's an onboard audio card you will find the drivers on the cd received with the system.you just have to install the drivers.if it's not an onboard driver you should check your cd-s for the driver and install it.in case you don't have such things just find out the vendor and the type of your soundcard and download the driver from www.driverguide.com.good luck

you almost certainly need to load, or re-load the audio drivers specifically for your system ("mother") board. Look at the board to learn who manufactured it, then go to that company's web site and download the audio drivers. Reboot and you should be in good shape.

Find out what type of computer you have, and what kind of sound card you have. You should goto the website of the company that created your computer - and download the sound-drivers.
For example: If you had a Sony VAIO you would goto the Sony website and download their sound-card driver.
