Well I was playing a game and all of a sudden my comp shut off and i smelled something burning. So I open up my comp and smell, it smelled like it was coming from the power source, so I went and got a diff power source and switched it, it still wouldnt turn on. So I tried a 3rd power source just in case...no go. I used the original power source on another PC, turned on. So I've ruled that out. Now, the motherboard light is not coming on(granted I cannot find it but I'm assuming if it came on it would be pretty noticable[manual is in the closet somewhere]). So now I'm wondering if its possible that its something other than my mobo, and if not, is it possible that my motherboard frying could have damaged other stuff(CPU, RAM, Graphics card...etc). I would like to know if theres a possibility before I start swapping out a hundred things to test.

Thanks, and dont give me elementary advice, dont waste your time. I build computers, I know what I'm doing. Please just comment on the last part

Yes, it is definitely possible for other parts to bite the dust so to say. I have owned and operated a computer business in the past, and have seen things like this many times. One surge could possibly bypass the power supply, leading to your mobo, graphics card, nic, even your drives.

If you smell something burning, remove the mobo and all of it's cards, inspecting each part on them (especially capacitors) for any burn like damage. If a part just burned out, it will typically have a brown or black mark. If arcing occurred you may see a white/grey residue on the board or card itself. The CPU is the hardest item to check since most of it's inner workings are encased on the inside of the silicon block. (Note I said most...doesn't mean all)

Well, I hope you find out what the problem was and get it up and running smoothly.

All the motherboards I've ever worked with have an indicator light of some sort on the board. Even when your comp is powered down, the light remains lit. You say there's no light, so I would suspect that your mobo's dead, but I'm not looking at the unit so it's just a guess. When a board dies, it's always possible that another piece of hardware may have been damaged, but you're just gonna have to trouble shoot her to see what can be salvaged. Good luck man.

I've seen ram go in this type of situation many times, and I also do builds so I have some experience with people's charred ram. Just have to remember nothing is perfect, not even technology.

mum and dad in many situations attempt to provide the most suitable for his or her children, because they opt for his or her infant to have vibrant destiny, bodily and spiritually. They know what's extra useful for his or her children than the children do, because they have extra adventure and training, yet many times situations children don't love the way their mum and dad coach them, yet contained in the destiny they are going to remorseful about and say " I must have listened to my mum and dad ( somewhat of my pals or human beings i'm remarkable round with)." i'm telling you this in reaction to my own adventure. I made distinctive mistakes in my existence, because i replaced into so rebellious, yet then i realized that my mum and dad were correct. I thoroughly consider Starla_C, that you would possibly want to refer to a college counselor, in case you fairly tell the reality. in case you tell lies, you're ungrateful and should be ashamed and by no potential do this back. I' m Christian, yet i does no longer beat my infant, in the experience that they did not bypass to church. that is hostile to Christianity. in case you fairly tell the reality and your mum and dad beat you, you would possibly want to not generalize all Christians and say all Christians are undesirable. that is unfair. no one is suitable. Christians are human beings ,too
