I bought a Maxtor 300GB hard drive for use with our Sony DV camcorder. Unfortunately when I tried to upload from the camera I get a message telling me that the write speed is not fast enough on the drive. Instead I have had to use the 60GB drive that came with the computer and then move the huge files to the big drive, which has now been a total disappointment. The packaging on the Maxtor drive claimed to be great for movies and music, but it seems to be a total bust. I am curious is write speed something that is adjustable on hard drives or are they typically set at one speed from the factory?

I know how to change the layout of the keyboard from one language to another. But how can I change the layout of individual keys? I am trying to write in Polish on my British computer. But the problem I have is that whether I switch to Polish Programmer's keyboard or Polish 214 I do not only get the additional Polish letters which I want, but also some undesired swaps - like " and @.

This is also the same for the Windows98 boot disk. I usually have to get my ps/2 keyboard and run around between computers. However the USB keyboard works just fine for getting into BIOS and the WindowsXP boot from CD.

I unfortunately need to install windows 98 on a new 80gb sata drive due to outdated (and very expensive) software that won't run on any O/S above win89. I was trying for a dual boot win98/Win XP Pro ... the problem is that windows 98 installs, but when complete it won't boot into normal windows, only safe mode and no CD Rom detected... any ideas? When it does try to lod windows normally, it freezes. The new hard drive is good as it installs and runs win XP just fine.

Recently (as of today), all of my sound has gone completely from working perfectly to being dead-silent! I checked the volume control settings, and my sound should be working, but it isn't. Is there something I haven't thought of, or is my sound card shot? This is a semi-new computer, so I would be pretty upset if it was the sound card.

Thanks in advance :(

hey guys, im having issues with my Liteon dvd-rw drive.. it used to be SUPER fast when i first got it last year in june. it was at dma mode 5 and i just checked today and its now at dma mode 2.. its really slow. it takes about 15-20 seconds to detect a cd and it rips painfully slow and burns really slow.. dvds burn ok about 10 minutes to rip dvds. right now im ripping a cd at 1.6x realtime according to win amp..

Hi, I just got vista (ultimate 32-bit), and right now I have the geforce 7950gt videocard. It supernice, but being a gamer, I want to get a directx 10 card. My question is since they are relatively new, they are very pricey, So should I wait a few months to get one? Im guessing in a few months the price will drop tremendously and the performence will go way up. But thats all a guess and I could be completly wrong. thanks alot -Nick

I have a Gigabyte PCIe 7600GT which is passively cooled - it's brilliant! http://tomshardware.co.uk/2006/06/02/graphics_card_quiet_uk/page3.html
It idles at 43°C and I can't push it past 60°C whatever I do.
It performs better than my AGP 6800GT.

I thought I'd try similar with an AGP box. so I bought a passively cooled Gigabyte 7600GS.
From startup, if I display the GPU temp as soon as I can, it's at 65°C.
If I run 3DMark2001SE (hardly demanding) it throttles - reaches 125°C and reduces its voltage. Then it won't cool below 75°C even if I leave it idle for a couple of hours.
This can't be right - I'll exchange it....
But can I? What temperature should it run at? If I make the two hour round trip to exchange it, I'd like to know that I won't be turned away - on the grounds that it is actually working.
If I can exchange it, should I expect another card to be any better? Or should I go for a different card? There aren't many passive AGP cards available - any suggestions?

I bought a brand new 100GB hard drive and installed winXP on it. It isn't even showing 1GB of free memory. To be exact it is showing Free Space: 88.8MB and Total Size (C:/) 1.99GB. I haven't loaded anything on this computer except windowsXP. The whole process of what I done was remove the old hard drive and then put in a new hard drive with nothing on it. Then I installed XP (right after putting the hard drive in without using the boot disk that came with the hard drive) Why is it showing such a low memory (and getting error messages along with it that is saying low memory). Please someone help me with this problem.
