your speakers do not work, test them stand alone on a MP3 player or any radio. connect and see.
if they work stand alone, then the problem must be of the sound card itself. get its software reinstalled from a technitian.
now for your ROM, the in and out of the tray is because of the mecnhanism or the PCB error. get it rectified from the company's service center whos manufactured article it it. dial the toll free number for that specific company and they will tell u the address of teh nearest service center.
your querry will be solved.
no need to panic

I know a good priest if you want to perform an exorcism now. lol

Well first of all have you run a virus scan. I had that with my DVD drive too. It was weird. Anyway, I did a restore and it went away. But i ran a virus scan before and nothing. I will never know.

Anyway, if a virus scan does not work, do a restore. Go the ALL PROGRAMS then click PC HELP & TOOLS, then click RESTORE. Then if that don't work, well things do break down.
I got my Sony DRU 830a on the internet for $47, about 50% cheaper than Circuit City. The DVD drive after 5 years of odd problems final broke down.

Your sound issue is one of two things, you have bad speakers or you need a new sound card.As for the cd rom having a mind of its own......I'd say check your drivers for the cd rom and if they are fine consider a new cd rom especially if this is an older computer.None of what you are bother with is hard to do.To check out the rom go to my computer, right click on your cd rom, then properties, then hardware, make sure your cd rom is highlighted then click on properties, now click on driver, now click on update driver. You're all done. Here's my e-mahoo.comBelow is a link for new sound card, speakers and cd roms.Good luck.

Sounds like you need to simply get a new CD/DVD-Rom drive and/or Device Drivers for your soundcard. The Drivers you can get from Driverguide.com

make sure its your speakers - and not your sound-card, if its your sound card.

go here to see what soundcard you have, and get the updates for the sound card.

go to programs>accessories>system tools>system information/componets>sound-device

your cd-rom opens and closes, maybe because you have a virus; so do a virus scan

Try reloading the drivers for sound and the CD. Would help if we knew what OS you had....
