OK, here is what I need to know. What kind of ram will work with this? I put 3 random chips I had laying around into it so it would start, all were 256mb. Theres a high kind of noise coming from the Ram, I know its the ram because a friend had a similar problem, plus it only happens after I put the ram in, it worked fine before. I know that certain motherboards only work with certain ram on certain frequencies. The motherboard is 168 pin, these are 168 pin ram. I know about that, I just don't know how to match frequencies. I also can't find the ram frequencies, I ran CPU-z it just states them as 256, thats it. Heres my motherboard stats.

Asus CUV4X-E,

Pentium III 850 mhz socket 370,

BIOS Award Software Inc Asus CUV4X-E ACPI BIOS Revision 1001.

So, what do I do, how do I find the Ram's frequencies, and whats the mother boards stats and frequencies?

I have decided to get a DVD Player/Writer for my HP. What I was wondering is; Is it difficult to install a DVD drive, or can any boob do it. I replaced the internal modem drive awhile ago, so I'm not to squirmish about going into my computer.

Can someone give me a general idea of the steps involved to install it? Also, is there a certain brand I should get, or would any do?

And, just to finish on a dumb note, I could play regular DVDs, like movies (Silent Hill) and tv box sets (Family Guy) on it, right?

Is there a special chip you buy, or do you have to take apart your PC?

I've got an old HP processor with 128 MB RAM memory that desperately needs to be upgraded. Any info (the more detailed the better) would be VERY appreciated. I'm too good with computers. :(

On all of the computer accessories I look at they say "windows 98, windows xp compatible". Does that mean they will work with Windows Vista as well, but that it just isn't listed because it's newer? Wireless mouse and keyboard are what I'm looking for. Some recommendations for those would be good too...I want a mouse with function buttons on the thumb side.

I'm on the final upgrade task for the computer I inhierited from my folks after they got their new one. Currently, mine sports 1GB of RAM(PC2100 SDRAM), a GeForceFX5500 video card, a SoundBlaster Audigy sound card and both a 52X CD-R and 16X DVD-RW drive. (I'm obviously rebuilding this thing, yeah?). Problem is that it has a 1.8 GHz Intel Celeron processor.(yes, it is an eMachine, or was, depending on the outcome.) Not enough juice for me. Can anyone recommend a good idea for a Socket 478 processor that may work well with my system? I've looked online at Newegg and such, but some of the products seem to be more words than performance. My question is, "What would be optimal?"

I'm not going to explain why. I would only insult the intelligence of those who can understand why and overestimate the intelligence of those who can't. These boards do exist, but there is not a site I am comfortable buying from. Though this is probably also a waste of time considering some of the answers I've read. For example, to the feasible and useful question "should i get a secured credit card?" I read only insults. There are obviously good reasons for the card, and it can be very useful. Yahoo! should hire a staff to filter out the offensive answers. This is a question and answer site by intention, not a place for people to get a rush from insulting people without fear of retaliation and claim superior intelligence without proving it by actually answering the question.

I recently started having alot of problems with my visuals with my computer, while playing games more notably the textures would tear and flicker but after enabling bios shadowing it stopped, a few days ago it started again and now after about an hour or so it gets so bad my monitor turns off and resets the screen, it gets miscolored, the desktop flickers and my CPU usage goes up and down, i dont have many processes running but system idle process seems to be 99 under the CPU category on the task manager, the specs for my comp are as follows;

Intel Pentium 4 3.20 GHz
1024 MB single channel DDR 400MHz RAM PC3200
nVidia Geforce 6800 GS

i've tried alot of things, new RAM didnt work, i doubt its my video card, its not the monitor, so im thinking it has to do with my operating system itsself, i updated my drivers, i fixed my registry, defrag'd, checked for disk errors...everything, virus scanned.
occasionaly it cuts to the blue screen and dumps my physical memory.

i backup my itunes library to an external hard drive. it takes about 30 min, (4000 songs). but i daily add tons of songs to my library and need to back up constantly. everytime i do, i throw out my old library from my hard drive, then drag in my updated itunes library. is there a way to configure itunes so when i drag in my library to my hard drive, it will recognize ONLY THE NEW SONGS I ADDED - and only copy those - so i don't have to copy EVERYTHING all over again?? thanks for any help!

Eager to reward my daughter for her good school grades, we gave her a brand new laptop which works great and also a brand new There lies the problem. I saw INTEL 3.2 GHz and went for it to only to find that the stupid PC is USELESSLY slow. I do mean USELESS.... Absolutely useless. It takes ages to do anything !! It is an INTEL 'Cerelon' and came with only 256 of memory and so my question is: Will the installation of 1GB of memory bring the PC to normal speed ? Will it solve the problem ? Any advice will be very much appreciated. Thanks you. The model of the PC is "HP Pavillion a1507.uk" -- Thanks again
