i backup my itunes library to an external hard drive. it takes about 30 min, (4000 songs). but i daily add tons of songs to my library and need to back up constantly. everytime i do, i throw out my old library from my hard drive, then drag in my updated itunes library. is there a way to configure itunes so when i drag in my library to my hard drive, it will recognize ONLY THE NEW SONGS I ADDED - and only copy those - so i don't have to copy EVERYTHING all over again?? thanks for any help!

You could try moving your itunes library so that it is stored on the hard drive instead of on your computer. Im not familiar with macs but i store all my music on a external 500gb drive.

Press F1 help and type in briefcase.
if you right click and select " new briefcase" drag your Music files into it then drag the briefcase into your back up hard drive then you can update the briefcase in seconds
