i have an acer pc that was pre installed with 2x 256mb ram and i have 2 spare slots i have put a 512 ram into one of them but it only shows up in my system as 768mb so i guess one of the pre installed 256 isnt showing up anymore?any soultions or should it be like that?

I dont know how it works now a day but back when a 16 MB ram card was average you had to stick all of the same ram cards in you couldnt mix match them

1) Turn off all the power going through computer...
2)Open you'r computer AND MAKE SURE YOU DO IT GENTLY!
3)I guess you know what a RAM thinghy looks like...look for it in you'r computer
4)Make sure that it is pluged in properly.
5)Make sure it is the same kind of RAM

And..if all of this is correct...that it should work...if it doesen't contact the place you bought the RAM from or the company who made it...

It may be you need to have matching memory cards, the larger one it may be treating as if is 256mb instead of 512mb so it matches the other ones. This would mean the PC is treating it as if you have 3x256mb instead.

Remove the 2 256mb cards and ensure that the 512mb is recognised fine.

Dont mix a 512 with a 256 use 2x256 or 2x512 Thats the way it is!!

coud be any of the following::: one of your old ones dont work, the slot is no good, the mother board only can read this much, the new one is faulty..... put them one at a time and see wht is happening, u ll know

if your motherboard cant handel it it will read at the most it will handel.so maybe your motherboard can only read 768MB RAM
