Eager to reward my daughter for her good school grades, we gave her a brand new laptop which works great and also a brand new There lies the problem. I saw INTEL 3.2 GHz and went for it to only to find that the stupid PC is USELESSLY slow. I do mean USELESS.... Absolutely useless. It takes ages to do anything !! It is an INTEL 'Cerelon' and came with only 256 of memory and so my question is: Will the installation of 1GB of memory bring the PC to normal speed ? Will it solve the problem ? Any advice will be very much appreciated. Thanks you. The model of the PC is "HP Pavillion a1507.uk" -- Thanks again

"Norm" -- thank you for your advice. I forgot to include in my question that it is a "Celeron D" and not "Cerelon M". Would your answer/s be the same now that you know it D Cerelon ????

Hi Red Chrome,

More memory will certainly make a significant difference.

Your system doesn't sound too bad. The 3.2 Ghz Celeron is a decent speed. The most serious flaw in your system is memory which you have zeroed in on.

If it was my system I would put 2 GB of memory in it. If you can't afford two GB certainly go to one GB. I think you will come to love that system. The 256K of memory is a joke in today's systems.

Hard disk space also contributes to the speed of your programs..little free space means your programs will run slow...more space then the faster it can run.
