Everytime I put in a CD in my drive, I get an error message saying "Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows."

HELP??

I have a Compaq Presario 1245 Laptop, and I just recently installed a new harddrive, formatted it, and was going to reinstall a windows disk. The system boot fine, and allowed to go into the setup fine, but there was a problem with the Cdrom tray being loose and shakey and not reading the disk. It was just a missing rail, that goofy me forgot to put back in....Anyways, I took out the Cddrive, fixed the problem, so far so good. However, now it will boot into the setup, but thats about it. Otherwise I get a Boot Disk Failure message. The CD doesnt open, and when go and manually open it, and insert the disk, it doesnt even spin. Its just dead, like its not there at all. It shows up in the BIOS, and lets me select it to boot from. So, Im thinking its just a wiring problem, like its not plugged in all the way, but everything looks fine. Could this be a HD problem? Will a boot disk failure cause the cd rom to not even work at all? I tried booting from floppy too.....nothing.

Everything is just unbelievably slow and it's really annoying.

If I minimize something, it takes a long time and has to load everything. I heard changing my theme to XP Classic speeds it up a little but XP Classic is REALLY ugly and I don't feel comfortable with my computer anymore if I use it.

I am running Windows XP Pro. I have 128MB ram, 1GHZ PROCESSOR.... uhh. yeah.

Please, I need help speeding it up.

I'm looking at buying either a Western Digital, Seagate or Maxtor.
The Maxtor is an external (I want external), but the others are IDE (I think that this means it is made for inside the comp...?) Anyways, with the Seagate or WD I would get an external case and put it in myself.
To answer this question, don't worry yourself about price, I've found some pretty sweet prices, but rather, WHAT IS BETTER and WHY?

Cheers heaps!

I have a Acer aspire 5100 laptop,When I plug the Ethernet cable into the port it doesnt click into the lock position, and can be easily pulled out. I have tried diferent ethernet cables, and none of them lock into position. Is this normal on laptops ,if so is this to allow the cable to be pulled free if the laptop is inadvertantly moved, Or have I just got a faulty port/socket,even though the connection is good. please help.....

I have a custom built pc. I was going to go on the internet, but my router configuration utility from netgear froze. I restarted my pc, and now, the adapter will not start. I tried uninstalling the device and the drivers and restarting the pc, and then reinstalling everything, but it will not start accoring to device manager error 10. I am so upset! I wanted to transfer my activation of adobe acrobat pro, so that I could reformat my hard drive, and then upgrade to vista, but this issue is keeping me from it! This is the first time that I have had this issue, and I am ready to pull my hair out! Thank you so much!

I know how to do CTRL+V to paste, but I'm a programmer and doing a lot of copy/paste is hard on my pinkie fingers. I have an emachines keyboard with a one-touch paste button, but the button broke. I'd like to reassign the paste command to another key.

I've been searching the web. I see a lot of articles about creating shortcuts to programs, but nothing about programming an actual command.

My computer's speakers (Cambridge SoundWorks 2500 - yes, I bought them in Japan) were working perfectly until I tried to update my sound card driver (Realtek HD Audio) and now they have stopped working.
It's a 5.1 system and to hear anything at all through the speakers now I have to turn the volume up to full and the sound (very quietly) comes out of the top-right speaker on my desk, and only that speaker.
I _think_ my volumes are all configured correctly but I may be wrong. Anyone got any ideas?
