I'm looking at buying either a Western Digital, Seagate or Maxtor.
The Maxtor is an external (I want external), but the others are IDE (I think that this means it is made for inside the comp...?) Anyways, with the Seagate or WD I would get an external case and put it in myself.
To answer this question, don't worry yourself about price, I've found some pretty sweet prices, but rather, WHAT IS BETTER and WHY?
Cheers heaps!

Maxtor has the biggest percentage of drives that fail...so no to that one (only thing worse is buying off brand)...
IDE is the cable you use to connect the drive to the motherboard and such...and yes it goes inside your computer...
As for just getting a internal one and getting a case for it...Seagates are the best...
As for the answer above me...the reason it only had 130 is because Windows XP only was capable of handling 130GB drives...but Service Pack 1 fixed that

As far as performance they are pretty much even. The big difference is the warranty. Western Digital has a 5 yr while Maxtor and Seagate have 1 yr.

I've had problems with Seagate drives that I've had in the past. Now, it might have been just one bad drive, but I went with Maxtor. I actually have 4 external drives on my PC, and haven't had a problem with them in over 3 years!
Perhaps, it's just personal preference, but as I've said, I've been pretty lucky with Maxtor

I've seen Maxtor used frequently in ads for Fry's Electronics, and i've known it to be a trustworthy brand. Also, if you're unsure about whether or not the others are external, stick with the one you're sure about.

All of those can be external. I like Western Digital, because it is more realiable. All computer companies, use there, Hard Drives.
I don't recall a company using anyother. If you want a great parts dealer, go to my source website....

Western Digital for the best brand.
Maxtor for the more resistant to heats.
Seagate... well I don't know about that.
They are all good harddrive but I prefer Western Digital above all for brand name trust for superiority strength.

They are all about the same. I've used them all.
Get the longest warranty just in case.
Make sure you get good specs on the drive. 7200rpm or higher. Large buffer like 8mb, fast access like 6ms.
Check the specs on Raptor drives as a comparison.
