A VGA fan goes on your graphics card/board (video card). Don't mess around with it if you don't know what you're doing. A graphics card can be quite expensive, whereas it won't cost you much to get someone to install the fan on the board. You can even blow your graphics card just by accidentally zapping it, so you have to touch something metal before you handle any PC parts.

Anyway, you shouldn't really mess about with it unless you're sure of what you're doing, which you don't sound like you are.

SpaceCowboy said that you'll burn out your CPU if you install it wrong. Actually, this fan is not for the CPU sp nothing will happen to the CPU. If the graphics chipset overheats, however, you may start to get malfunctioning and possible damage to the chips. My CPU overheated once because the CPU fan needed lubricating. The computer kept hanging. We lubricated the fan with silicone spray. Luckily, it wasn't permanently damaged.

But these days, chips have very high clock speeds, so with an overheat you mightn't be so lucky. Just get someone else to install it.

You install these on the chipset. Modern computers have a northbridge and a southbridge chipset the northbridge chip connected the CPU, Memory, Graphics Cards and has a direct connection to the southbridge chipset. The southbridge deals with hard disk, usb, firewire, floppy disk, cd/dvd drives, mouse etc.

The northbridge get hot so it needs a heatsink or sometimes even a fan it is normally located between the CPU and the AGP or PCI Express port it looks like a small processor but you can remove it.;

You really shouldnt mess with them if you dont know much about them. You can really cuz some bad effects or maybe you have the funds to afford another computer. But for starters, your chipset is a collection of drives or hardware information about your computer. some are made by Phoenix etc.. If you do end up going to buy one, read the instructions, they normally help.

The cooler you are looking at is built for the GPU on your video card. I would not suggest buying it and attempting to install it until you have done more research.

The chances of damaging the core of the GPU are high if you haven't done it before. If you damage the core, the card is worthless.

It is a very nice heatsink and fan, and is only compatible with a certain range of video cards.

Wait!

If you get the wrong one, or install incorrectly, you will burn out your cpu!!!!!

If you are a novice (implied by your question), DON't Do IT!!!

Find a geek friend, honest.
