I have a Compaq Presario 1245 Laptop, and I just recently installed a new harddrive, formatted it, and was going to reinstall a windows disk. The system boot fine, and allowed to go into the setup fine, but there was a problem with the Cdrom tray being loose and shakey and not reading the disk. It was just a missing rail, that goofy me forgot to put back in....Anyways, I took out the Cddrive, fixed the problem, so far so good. However, now it will boot into the setup, but thats about it. Otherwise I get a Boot Disk Failure message. The CD doesnt open, and when go and manually open it, and insert the disk, it doesnt even spin. Its just dead, like its not there at all. It shows up in the BIOS, and lets me select it to boot from. So, Im thinking its just a wiring problem, like its not plugged in all the way, but everything looks fine. Could this be a HD problem? Will a boot disk failure cause the cd rom to not even work at all? I tried booting from floppy too.....nothing.

And what might be causing the boot disk failure? I checked the connection.

I've tried changing the boot order...doesnt work. And its not the disk, cause it does work. The cdrom isnt even working anyway, or I would try a different disk. I'm just wondering if disk boot failure will cause the cd drive to not work at all.
