or how fast it is accessed? Also, does using memory with lower latencies always increase system performance? or can memory operate faster than the processor at times so that latencies won't matter because the memory finishes before the processor?

Please explain.

Thanks in advance.

I'm running now on a 1GB slot and want to add a other 1G later to the open slot. Lets say the motherboard can't support 1 plus G. Would I permanently damage my computer in going over, or would it just die at the time and then I can remove it with no harm done. It is a desktop Dell 4500s that I purchased three years ago

Does it matter what kind of ethernet cable you get?
i mean like it says: "Cat6" and "Cat5e"..what does it mean?
like these:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=5688909&st=ethernet+cable&type=product&id=1055389307312
-----
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2260649&cp=&origkw=ethernet+cable&kw=ethernet+cable&parentPage=search
----
Does brand names really matter too?
and which one should i buy? i want the one that you can hook the ethernet cable to my router/modem from my PC.

Thanks.

When I try to boot my computer I get a black screen that says

"Invalid system disk"
"Replace the disk, and then press any key."

Pressing any key just gives me the same message over and over again.

It's a black screen with white writing.

I do not have recovery CDs!! They didn't come with my computer and I never made them.

HP will walk me through fixing it for $35 but the computer is already 4 years old and the monitor needs replacing anyway...

I'd like to get it running just to get the pictures of my kids, address book, etc off of it to put on the new computer.

Can anyone out there give me directions to fix it?!

Do I need a certain type of computer or are thier simple instructions to follow with the current basic computer that i have now?

To be fair the store didn't attempt to sell me anything. The guy did suggest that it was probable that I had a 2x card & suggested trying ebay or similar for a used card. So he wasn't on the "you'll need a new computer" routine. Trouble is I can't find the booklets for all the components to see what it's fitted with. The pc was built by a friend using components from Dabs so it could have anything in it! All I do know for sure is it's got a Pentium III 866Mhz processor.
Thanks for the replies, cheers!
