I know that both of them have NIC. I thought that's all you need to get wireless connection.

Please explain.

Thanks in advance.

NIC ... Network Interface Card with a cable interface. Laptops come standard with wireless capability because you carry it around and wont always have a place to plug in. Also with a laptop you can pick up free signals in public with just the card in your laptop. If you want a wireless connection at home you will have to buy a wireless rounter as well as a wireless card for your desktop. I switched a couple years ago from wired to wireless so the kids could have thier computers on line ... worked great. You will just have to fork out a few clams for the hardware.

You need a wireless adapter card for the desktop, most new laptops have one built in, older one like mine require a pmcia wireless adapter.

Because you carry a laptop with you, like me right now, so you need wireless. Desktops are usually wired in where they are, so they can have wires. You need a wireless networking card, aka Wi-Fi card.
