If I click on the this computer icon, it shows I have 2 cd rom players. One for dvd's and rewritables and one for regular cd's, but I have only one player. Now it only opens dvd's and rewritables. It used to function just fine, I just started my computer yesterday and suddenly it detected 2.
How can I get it to function normally again?

Seemingly there are no software issues having run spybot and other anti-virus at this point.

I run Windows XP and have defragged and actually went as far as to reinstall Windows to no avail after trying restores.

Basically, the computer will run somewhat normally, then will freeze (without error message) for about 10-15 seconds. It will do this about 5 times, then run somewhat more normally for about 5-10 minutes.

The problem only really started this semester at school the computer has ran well for a few years, and as far as i can tell nothing is damaged visibly at least.

What is the best way I can retrieve the files from those disks?
Is anything available in the market ( Kolkata, specifically )?

This kind of disk ( from IOMEGA ) was popular once upon a time.

When I burn a disc from an iTunes playlist, it skips. It hasn't always. I've downloaded what I think is the latest driver for my computer's CD burner (a Dell Inspiron 5100). I've cleaned the CD player/burner on the computer with a CD player cleaner. What else can I do?

When i start up my computer the bios chip does not beep, and nothing is displayed on my monitor. Both the CPU and video card fans are working. I'm just wondering what it could be. I know it is not my montior, hardrive and obviously not my power sorce. Could this be because of my RAM? or video card? or what else?

Thanks =)

I know there is a question like this that was asked the same way but I got the same problem but the answer that he got can not help me. I just got my computer back up (crashed) and I now have windows 98 on it. But now I can only pick from 2 colors (black and white) and 16 colors. I am about to update the drivers but I read some of the comments on it and it does not seem to help with this update. One of the comments was something like "I set out to get my 256 colors back and this update does not help" So can anyone help me?
