I have a DSL connection and single modem, and need to run two PC's so do I just need a etthernet router to plug into the modem and then the PC's into that?

yep! go get a linksys wireless router, with ethernet hook-ups just incase one day you go wireless!

Exactly. You should get a router with built-in switch/hub capabilities. Probably just go to your favorite "big name" electronics superstore, or computer superstore, and tell them you need a router/switch. There are many available with wireless capabilities for just a little bit more money. Be sure to get one that says it has a built-in firewall, and NAT (network address translation), they'll know what you need. Everyone should have a hardware firewall, such as a router, as well as firewall software, to protect yourself (and the rest of us) from hackers, worms, etc.

I bought a wireless-router/switch/firewall on sale, and after rebates, it only cost me $9.95, shop around a bit, but get one soon!
