cd-rom - compact disc, read only memmory
rom - read only memory, which means you cant delete or rewrite its contents
ram - random access memory - temporary memoryin a pc which will be removed if the pc is turned off or the electricity goes off if you dont save it in your memory
binary number - the 2-base number system like 1011010100011, used by machines to input, process and output data.
bit - unit space occupid by data
byte - 8 bits
operating system - a system software used in a computer in its basic stage, which provides platform for other programs/applications and everything else, helps in maintaining interface between hardware and software and controls the whole computer
motherboard - the main part of a CPU where data are processed and the computer is coordinated from
soundcard - device used for inputing and outputing data related to sound
video card - device used to display video in a monitor
megahertz - speed of data travel which is equal to 1024 kilohertzs, its a unit of measuring frequency
pixel - the small pigments in a monitor whose combination froms a picture or video or anything else so that we can see it
refrest rate - SORRY, NO IDEA (but it has something to do with the display format of a monitor)
bios - Binary Input Output System
internet - network of networks made my connecting various servers, users and their transfer, through the world.

For all these, you better visit the wikipedia website for accurate and definitive information. And dont forget to vote my answer the best, heeehee, just kiddin.

CD rom is CD (the format) Read only memory
rom is read only memory,
ram is random access memory
Binary number is a 1 or a zero
bit is one binary number
byte is 8 bits
operating system is hard to define in a couple words
motherboard is the main board which your processor, accessories, ram, and many otherthings attach to.
sound card is the card on the motherboard (mobo) that deals with the output and input of sound.
Vid card is the same thing as sound card but with video. it generally has a much more powerful processor than sound cards.
both vid and sound cards can also come integrated on the motherboard
megahertz are a rating of millions of operations per second, which is how many processors are rated, speed wise (1 gigahert is 1000 megahertz)
pixel is one dot on your screen.
refresh rate is how often the screen puts up the new picture the video card sends it (ie: similar to framerate)
bios is the motherboard's operating system. it controls the hardware, and is the original printed software on the computer, allowing it to run.
Internet is just a giant network of computers and servers.

do your own homework next time.

cd-rom = compact disc read only memory which means its the drive in which u insert ur CD to watch it on your computer.

ROM(read only memory) means that you can only read or see it but not write anything on it.

RAM = random access memory. the chip that controls and manages your computer tasks and resources.

binary number= computer understands only two digits 0 and 1 which are known as binary numbers. all the info you enter is converted to these two nos.

bit= 1 binary no (0 or 1)
byte = 8 bits (01101110)

operating system = windows/Macintosh that lets you use the resources and process data on your computer

motherboard= the collection of hardware inside your CPU which contains processor, RAM and other devices installed.

sound card= chip for sound output on your computer
video card= chip for video quality output

megahertz= measurement of frequency (need to understand physics for it)

refresh rate= cycle where a service reloads or restarts itself/time

bios = binary input output system... something to do with your flow of data to and from the system

internet= if you dont know what that is you shouldn't be using this yahoo service.......

cheers,
mir

CD-rom = Compact disk "read only memory"
ROM = Read only memory
RAM = Random access memory
Binary Number = refers to numbers using the binary system (10001010100)
Bit = One digit of the binary number system
BYTE = 8 bits of the binary number system (10101010)
Operating System = The base code that unites various componentes of a computer system (used to be "disk operatiing system "DOS")
MOTHERBOARD = the main circuit board of a modern computer system (or other system) that connects various subsystem parts and circuits.
SOUND CARD = An adapter (circuit) that is the interface for your computer system sound sub-system.
VIDEO CARD = See sound card and apply that definition to video.
Megahertz = refers to frequency of a signal (DC pulses or AC wave) in cycles. 1 megahert is 1,000,000 cycles per second.
Pixel = the smallest dot of video information a display can show.
Refresh rate = May refer to video systems meaning that the entire screen will "refresh" at a given rate.
BIOS = "Basic Input Output System" often refered to as firmware it is a program that starts the "boot" process for your computer system.
Internet = A world wide inter-connected system of computers. If you are reading this, your computer is physically a part of te internet.

It means you have an accurate insight into a situation that you could not support. You know something is correct but you have no way of proving it. I can do that intuitive thing if the test is multiple choice. I can achieve better than 85% correct and never work a problem. Read the question, read the choices. One answer just looks better than the rest. My theory is our brain has the capability to do much more sub-consciously than we know how to do consciously. The brain forgets nothing. We just can't always consciously recall what is stored. The sub-conscious doesn't suffer from that problem. Complex math for example. If we remember the formula and know how to use it we can solve the problem. It may take time, but we can do it with conscious process. But what about that feeling I have that one answer looks better than the rest with pretty good accuracy? That's my sub-conscious kicking in and remembering those formulas I've forgotten and doing the computations without my thought processes slowing things down. It's a great thing. I wish I could turn the solutions over to my sub-conscious more often.

My advice to anyone who are not computer savvy is to buy several books. The Internet is more like an information reference than a book, so I wouldn't just rely on the Internet for information of computer hardware & software.
I'd suggest getting a book like, 'How Computers Work' by Ron White, published by Ziff/Davis publications. That company is also the publisher of PC Magazine. Getting a book like that makes the computer seem less like some black box. Contrary to what the freaking idiots at Apple have been saying, ANY home computer system is not an appliance. Realistically, a computer would only qualify as an appliance if it was not upgradable and only ran 1 program.
When you bought your computer, you should have noticed that it didn't come with any manuals for the operating system and PC hardware, so you should buy books for those too.
Buying books will help you to learn faster, as opposed to finding pieces of information here and there on the Internet.

Miss ruby I think you are not a student of Computer Science any how

CD-ROM(Compact Disk- Read Only Memory): Its a disk on which data can be stored. Read Only means that once the data is written on this disk then it could only be read.

RAM(Random Access memory): Its a non-volatile memory in whcih data is temporarily stored for processing. Data is permanently stored on Hard Disk but to match the speed of processor Hard Disk is not enough capable so that data is shifted on RAM which after processing stored back on Hard Disk.

Binary Number: Numbers having base 2. Like decimal having base
