You dont need to reformat it. you can install a new copy of windows and it will leave all the previous files intact. that means she wont lose any music or videos.
If you really want to just start off from scratch, put in the windows disk and install windows. it will have an option to reformat.
You cannot install windows while on your computer because when you put it in your daughters computer, it will tell you that it is not the same computer, and you should reinstall windows. This is a safety created by microsoft to keep people from buying one copy and creating mirror images on other computers to get around buying another copy.

yes, although if your installing xp it would make more sense installing xp direct on your daughters pc - one of the options installing xp is to reformat the drive and install a fresh copy of xp or reinstall on top of an existing partition.
If you install xp on your pc - your going to have all the wrong drivers installed unless your pc is an *exact* duplicate of your daughters pc.
Just borrow your base from your daughter and plug it into your monitor/keyboard. Reformat and reinstall win xp then give th base back.

My first workstation would not tell me using fact it became right into a working laptop or workstation with a ideas of it fairly is very own. it would turn itself off before i could do something. and especially situations it would survive yet when I dare flow the mouse... nicely it grew to alter right into a $500 paper weight using fact no one could get it to artwork. So my answer is 0GB. If it even became right into a GB.
