Will this erase hard drive? I was told to do this by tech support at gateway.

NO, format your HD will erase all data on it. Right Click on drive you want to erase then choose Format, make sure there is no program or files run on that drive. Remmember, this will ERASE your data on that drive, so consider to make a backup copy to data that not intended to erased

Are you trying to format your drive and scrape off all the data from it or you want to delete certain information from your Hard drive? be a little more specific as to what you want to do.
