I have two documents on a floppy disk, one works and one doesn't. I haven't done anything different with the two documents. When I click on the one that doesn't work, the disk drive makes a weird noise but won't go to it. Can anyone help me with this?

Since 2 weeks ago my case was giving some crancking sounds. Thought it was the CPU Cooler but the sounds came from the hard-drive. I know it makes some sound, but crancking like sounds? every time I boot after 15 seconds. And keeps doing it whenever it wants. Not a regular pattern. Is my Hdd dying? I have a WD 2500JD. And I have it for about half a year. SHould I be worried?

I bought this Celeron machine- 2nd hand. And I didn't get the driver CDs with it. I've installed Win XP. This helped in loading all the device drivers properly, except for the sound card (it's onboard). The machine had Win 98 previously. And the sound card was working there perfectly. It was lost after I installed XP. I opened the Device Manager and found out that the sound card is showing up there.... something like AC 97 Audio Device or whatever. I opened it and went to the driver page. There I found the option Update Driver. Clicking on to it- a wizard opened up. There after a few steps it asked if I want to download the driver from the net. I clicked Yes but then it said it couldn't find the driver (I had kept my internet connection active all the time). I don't know what to do next. Please help, I have very little computer knowledge. So, please be detailed.

Can some one tell me, what is the latest Pentium CPU?

I know there are the Pentium 4 2.4GHz, 2.66GHz, LGA475 and 3.0GHz LGA775.

But what is the latest Pentium now and what is its LGA? Is it still using LGA 775?

I was seeing videos on CNET TV, and I saw one on how to install more RAM. The guy said to discharge yourself from static electricity before touching the hardware. Every time I open my computer to add or change something, I never worry about static electricity and my computer still works fine.

How does static electricity affect the hardware?

I have an HP Pavilion s7310n Slimline. I can't view data on my smart media card or jump drive. The Folder shows that both "disk"s are blank. I've taken pictures on my camera using the smart media card and they show up on the camera, but not when I put the card in the pc. (Yes, there is data on it and it is put in correctly.) I even tried restarting my computer, reformatting the card, retaking the pictures, etc. The jump drive -- pc tells me I have new hardware when I plug it in, but yet I can't find it anywhere on the pc. I've tried it in every USB port I have... nothing. Anyone have any ideas??? Thank you! :-)

How increasing number of transistor increase the power or speed of processor ? We know transistor have two modes(on or off) . Does all the transistor of a processor stays at same state at a particulal time ? If the answer is positive then only one transistor should be enough for a processor to process data . If answer is negative then how the transistors is in different state at a time while processor get 0or1 as input signal at a time . Processor get 0or1 as input signal at a time ; whats the output when input is 0. Answer me the same question when input is 1.

My PC is running Windows 2000 and has BT Anytime Dial Up and it was working well and then I tried to go on the internet the other day and it said there was no dial tone. I checked the cables and still no dial tone so I got new cables and it still isnt working. It says the modem is working fine but we had a thunder storm earlier that day. Why isnt it working?

Ok, i have this question that makes me kinda anxious for a while now. I have 3 HD's on my system. The first one is a 35GB @10.000 rpm western digital and thats where my system resides. Only OS and Program files are stored there, i never save files on that HD and it really works fine. The Other 2 HD's are two identical 120Gb@7200rpm each western digital disks that a friend hooked up on RAID. Now, i know nothing about RAID, what i know is that those two disks are connected in a way that data is split in two and written half in one disk and half in the other theoritically in half the speed. I'm backing up my work (or atleast the crucial stuff) but i was wondering what will happen if one disk messes up or if C: messes up..what and where is the part where it united those two disks and makes sense out of all the files?
yada yada yada

It's built into a very heavy wooden box that contains hand-blown glass tubes clamped down on one side and what looks like a turntable on the right side. There is what might be described as a tone-arm on that side but no circular rotating platform to hold records. The base of this side is marble, so it is very heavy. There is a cloth-covered cord with a plug, so it must run on electricity. No one has dared to plug it in yet.

What could this thing be?

I have the internet working fine (finally!) and everything is set up perfectly. Already tried the rebooting and the troubleshooting sections and going to 192.168.15.1.... i dunno if i have to change sumthing there. But i still have no dial tone and i had one yesterday. the only thing that changed is that i had a bad internet connexion then and now i fixed it.... moving something else on the way. the phone is set to tone and not pulse. what is wrong?
