I remember that there was an episode of Mythbusters where they were trying to see if thunderstorms could severely damage home appliances (like microwaves and computers), and they found that most of them (including the test computer) were not damaged in the testing. So why should I unplug my computer anyway? Thanks, your answers are very much appreciated!

I was wondering if there are some settings that should definitely be enabled, to get better performance out of my system. Or, if no one is familiar with this chipset, then if someone could suggest a guide, I'd be appreciative. Thanks!

I have Windows XP Pro (genuine) with all updates and 1250mhz processor and 1gb memory.

Every time I turn my computer on, once it gets to the desktop with all programme's showing it freezes and i have to turn the power off and back on, and it always works the second time and loads up ok after windows preforms a "check disk", my file type is FAT2 If that means anything to you.

And the the other problem is that when it loads up, it always loads up to an account that is just called administrator instead of my account (paul) but when i go to log that one off, only my account (and guest account) is showing on the list, so i have to click on my name to load right, there isn't even an account just called administrator there??

Any help is much appreciated, thanks in advance

I have a Sony PCV-RX860 which is very slightly modified.

Intel Pentium 4 2.4ghz

160GB Hard Drive Space (Original 80gb)

1.5GB DDR SDRAM (Original 512mb)

Video Memory: 32mb (i know it sucks)

DVD -RW and CD-RW Drive (Bay 1)
CD-DRIVE (Bay 2)

Floppy Drive, MemoryStick Drive.

I bought it in 2002. How would you compare it to todays standards. Is it slow? Okay for everyday use? Im thinking of replacing it but should I give it more time? Im not sure what to do I want someone else's opinion. My opinion of couse its slow to todays computers but its not that slow that it will kill me. What to do?

When you screw the screws into the heatsink, are they supposed to hit holes under the motherboard in the computer case? because my case doesn't have holes there...if it is supposed to hit holes, what should I do?

I picked up a new computer a few weeks ago and I was looking forward to playing a few games on it. It's a Dell Dimension E521 with Vista, 2 GB of RAM, an Athlon X2 4000+ processor, an nVidia 8500 GT 256 MB graphics card, and a 22in LCD monitor. Sounded OK to me especially for $750ish...but I picked up GTA San Andreas and it runs really choppy on it. My computer specs seem to be much higher than the game suggests to. Is the 8500 just a crappy card? It should be able to play 2 year old games you'd think.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This Few Things I already know:
Mac
Good Things:
- Faster
- You get less Virus-attacks

Bad Things:
- No games
- Most program's are made for windows

PC
Good things:
- More Games
- More Programs
- Most of the people use it

Bad things:
- Gets slow after a time
- Sensitive - More Virus-attacks

I need to know more good- and bad things about PC and MAC bcoz im not sure what to buy!

I am a Windows user but I would be interested to try MAC, the problem is, that my father thinks that MAC isn't that good as PC... I DONT KNOW :S

I was wondering if I could use the memory sticks out of a computer that the motherboard is junk in. Would I be able to use the memory in a different computer without messing anything up?

2007-06-22 10:10:58 · 7 answers · asked by Ivan A 1

OK so i have this computer (e machines T2460). like 3 days ago it was working fine, and now today when i tried to turn it on it wouldn't turn on(nothing would turn on, No fan, Light, or Sound or anything, like if it was off) So I thought it might be the power supply so i changed it. When i had finish installing it and tried to turn it on it still wouldn't turn on. So i know its not the power supply. So then i check if all the cables were connected properly and they were i even dusted out the little dust it had and used contact cleaner spray on the inputs of the mother board. Then again i tried to turn it on but it still wouldn't turn on. So then again i tried to turn it on with the side cover opened to see if at least a light turned on in the mother board but nothing.
I know its not a virus or that something is not install correctly.
Could it be my motherboard that it got fried? How can i fix it?
Or could it be something else?
But how could that be? I had it connected to a power surge.
