When I was playing a game on my computer one day, it just stopped what I was doing and restarted itself. Once everything loaded, I tried again to start my game, and it restarted itself again. After a few times of restarting it wouldn't even give me enough time to actually go to start - shut down.

So I just held the power button down and it finally turned off. I've done this a few times in the past but nothing bad happened to my computer. However, this time when I tried to turn it back on after a few seconds, it wouldn't turn on.

I checked the back to make sure cords weren't loose and they weren't. I also noticed that the green light in the back of the hard drive was still on if that matters.

I know it's not my moniter, because when I push the power button it should light up showing that my computer is on, but it doesn't.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with it, and if I can fix it, how?

I have a computer that until recently was cutting out because the CPU was getting too hot (> 70 degrees C) so I reapplied a thin layer of some thermal paste on the CPU and Cooler/Fan attachment and now it's running much cooler. It's a stock AMD 4600+ X2 CPU/Fan combination. I have just the PSU blowing air out. Is it better to fit a fan at the front AND back of the case? What about directing air to the CPU?

Hello! I recently bought a new computer to hopefully use it for video editing. I plan on doing this as a career in the future and would like all the practice I can get as a kid. Here are the System Specs (I'm not sure what some of these thing mean, lol):

eMachines T5088 Desktop PC
Windows Vista Home Basic
Intel Pentium 4 HT Processor; 3.20 GHz
512 MB DDR2 Dual Channel Capable
15 in 1 High Speed Digital Manager
160 GB SATA II; 7,200 RPM with 8 MB Cache
DVD(+,-)RW Multi-Format Double Layer Drive
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
Up to 224 MB Shared Video Memory
PCI-Express slot available

I have no clue what most of that means. Go here to find more detailed system specs: http://emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=T5088

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do or buy to make this computer the best it can be for video editing and production? Also, any tips on cheap software besides Windows Movie Maker 6.0?

Thanks!

My friend shut down his computer, went to work and his roommate started it up and used it for a while. When my friend got home, the computer would go to start up (ie: fans turn on, HD spins up) there is no post beeps and the no signal to monitor. He had this problem before back in December and it was the motherboard that went bad. I replaced that for him and checked to match sure everything else (ram, video card, cpu, HD, power supply etc.) worked. Could it be that the motherboard just fried again or something else is causing the same problem?

When I render video onto a DVD, the effects and video quality don't come out as crisp as on the computer. What types of things can I do to make the rendering process more efficient? Is it the type of video card, the processor, the software, etc..? I am currently running a pentium D processor, w/ 256 mb geforce 6800, with 2GB memory, and a 250 gig hard drive. I currently use Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0. I am going to buy a new computer though, and I want to know which components would be most helpful in future. Any help would be great. Thank you.

I am looking to buy a computer and would like some info, advice, and suggestions based on the features I would like to have. I would like a computer that

• Is dependable (will not freeze or break down often)
• Will be useful for many years (as opposed to obsolete and useless in one)
• Will be able to handle some moderate digital photo retouching with GIMP
• Has decent speed and storage (I do not need lightening fast speed or a whole lot of storage)
• Is reasonably priced ($0-$300)
• I will not be playing games on my computer so I need no info, advice, and/or suggestions concerning what I need for them.

If you have some useful info, advice, and/or suggestions, I would appreciate it.

I would also appreciate info on both PCs and Macs, as I am open to getting either.
