I'm getting a Dell XPS 410 with 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM. i want to upgrade to the ATI Radeon X1300 Pro from the nVidia GeForce 7300LE and the Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme music card from the integrated 7.1 audio. will these upgrades slow my performance or help it? (i'm thinking about the power supply not being able to handle it)

i wouldn't worry bout the sound card (7.1 integrated is good enough unless you're doing professional sound stuff). and you should be able to upgrade the graphics card easily. Just remember the drivers.

They will certainly not slow it down, and upgrade makes it faster not slower. As for the power supply, this is pretty much an all or nothing proposition, you either have enough power or you don't. Its not a case of components slowing down a little, stuff will plain stop working correctly if you underpower them. But in this case, no worries you have plenty of power. Just as a suggestion, you might be able to save a few buck by looking at an E521 or E520 instead of the XPS, since you are not a gamer.
