As a computer professional for 15 years I would say it's highly unlikely.

Of course if for some reason the ram was defective and somehow caused a short in the system board it might be possible but I would say no to this.

not really, adding more hard drives etc

or a new gfx card will cause more drain. esp the gfx card.. the newer ones don't recomend anything less than 300-350? i forget as with direct x 10 coming out apparently it's supposed use more drain the gfx card more

depends how much you have plugged in and the rating of ur PSU , but i doubt it would push it over the edge, drain wise.

between the answerers above claimed a computer in use is like having on a 40watt bulb. nicely, in the experience that your 40watt bulb attracts approximately a hundred and fifty-200watts, i might heavily ask for my funds returned. i've got checked various the desktops i've got owned with a means-intake meter, and that they have got an inclination to apply between a hundred and fifty-200watts. means is measured in watt/hours, so a computer like this left on for an hour might use 200watt/hours of electricity. those desktops have had processors in the only million.5Ghz-2GHz variety. once you're utilising a very rapid processor and you do various gaming with a complex photographs card equipped, you should in all probability stick yet another one hundred-150watts onto that. A CRT computer screen makes use of a elementary volume of means too - my previous 15inch one averages approximately 80watts. liquid crystal demonstrate video demonstrate contraptions tend to be much less means hungry than CRTs. Leaving desktops on whilst they do no longer look to be in use isn't purely a waste of funds yet for sure additionally an uneccessary contribution to worldwide warming. yet another factor to bear in mind is that digital aspects have constrained lifespans, many times measured in tens or hundreds of hundreds of hours. Capacitors (you will locate various those on your means supply and on your motherboard) have shorter lifespans than many different aspects, critically shorter in the event that they're run in heat or warm environments.

Unless your power supply is already maxed out, then there will be no problem. RAM doesn't exactly suck up large amounts of power.

It shouldn't, but I guess there is a chance it might since the RAM does use power (3.3 volts).
