Desktops - June 2007

I have a work computer and I'm getting a new job so I took all the personal files off of it, and deleted the recycling bin. I've been using a memory stick, but somehow my mom managed to delete all the files on it while trying to copy and past a file. Now EVERYTHING is gone and I'm FREAKING out... is it gone forever? I had photos of some of my husband's soldiers who have died in Iraq, all of our budgets, my resume, complete addresses for my friends and family, research, poems and letters... you name it!!!! HELP!!!

For some reason, I got both a DVD-R and a CD stuck in my iMac. It won't eject either one and when I try to, it freezes up my computer. What can I do besides take it in?

The hard drive in my old PC has died & I want to replace it to prolong the life of PC - the hard drive is a Maxtor N256, model no 31536U2...I need to establish what interface it is to buy new compatible hard drive - any ideas what it is or how I can find out (other than asking Maxtor/Seagate)?

i was trying to learn how to do "touch typing" with some software (typing with out looking at the keyboard), but it's really difficult after a few minutes my wrist felt stiff and uncomfortable almost painful.

i normally type with my index fingers and looking at the keyboard but i can type pretty fast.

Should i "force" myself into learning how to touch type? is it really an essential skill? what are the cons and pros of touch typing?

and how long that it usually take to learn how to touch type around 50 wpm

Okay the computer , I wanted was custimize by myslef and all together is 17,000 dollars. Thats how much the Alienware desktop that I wanted. I think i got carried away on putting the best stuff in it. but, I just want to make sure Im not putting stuff i really don't need or is personally optional. i am currently 15 but, Tell me the price ill worry about the price myself because i know how to get the oney just tell me What i need to have on a gaming computer and what i really don't need. OK so I've Set the Comp to boot to CD and Everytime it Says
That it can do it?
It gives me these options

1.run in Safe Mode
2. Run Safe mode w/ Command promt
3. START WINDOWS NORMALLY

I really need to Reformat the disc A.K.A Re-install the OS
any Suggestions??

Yesterday my city had a power outage it lasted only like 2 seconds i was using the computer and it shut off its acting slow now and the next day it was acting a little slow too is this bad for my compute?!thanks.

When trying to put in E6400 into its socket on MSI P6N-SLI motherboard, in the manual it said to lower the load plate and then lightly to push load level to secure the CPU, but i had to press a bit hard to secure it under hook...did I just mess up my CPU/MOBO?!?!

In my computer I have 3 Hard Drives (all internal) My main hard drive has XP on and is partitioned with Ubuntu on it also. On another Hard drive I have in my computer I have vista on it and that is also partitioned with Mac OSX (so my computer is a Quad-boot if you like) And the third Hard Drive is a 500GB just sitting there storing lots of things and is nearly full.

Anyway one morning, turned on my computer was trying to boot into Vista like normal and it cam eup with an error saying it cannot find the vista Start-up drivers. I though Vista must have a problem and be corrupt, putting in the install DVD should work fine. I tried to boot into Mac and that also would'nt boot. So I booted into XP and clicked on My Computer and it only showed 1 hard drive the one I was using. It previously always showed 3. So in the end 2 of my 3 Hard Drives have stopped working. Im not to bothered about the Vista/Mac one but my 500GB I am, they still both spin but just wont be recognized can anyone help?

A friend has rencently given me an Apple Mac G4 belonging to their father who sadly passed away,unfortunately no passwords have been left. I have tried changing the hard drive but it still wont allow me in. Ant suggestions please ?
