The files have been copied, my computer restarted, and now it is frozen on the next step. My computer has all requirements and then some for XP.

Hi,

Some XP installations have been known to be fickle. Have you tried to install XP a couple of times from the begginning? I know it's a pain, but it's also worth a shot.

Installation freezes can occur for numerous, enigmatic reasons. The three most common are:

1. Incompatable drivers for devices that Windows detects as it installs

2. Faulty hardware (memory sticks, motherboard, hard-drive)

3. A faulty install CD.

Of the three, the hardware components and the driver issues can be checked for trouble, with the result being that you can still install Windows. If you have incompatable drivers, diconnect any devices other than the monitor, mouse and keyboard, and then try to install Windows again.
However, if the CD is bad, you are not going to be able to install, period. You can try to persuade the retailer you bought it from to give you a replacement (this is not likely to succeed).

Let me know if this does (or does not) work for you.

I am assuming that you are not overclocking, and that your RAM is the proper rating for your system.

1) Turn off the system.
2). Make certain that your RAM is seated correctly. If you don't know how to do this, you can try skipping this step and see if it freezes again.
3) Restart the computer.
4) If it freezes again at the same point, try re-installing the OS.
5) If this fails at the same point, you probably have faulty hardware (MB,CPU, or RAM). I have had this particular problem with a faulty AMD CPU.

Try another restart, It can't hurt anything if you're frozen now.
