A friend has rencently given me an Apple Mac G4 belonging to their father who sadly passed away,unfortunately no passwords have been left. I have tried changing the hard drive but it still wont allow me in. Ant suggestions please ?

Sure! Take the side cover off, remove the cmos battery( as this keeps the pswds in tact when power is off) wait about 1 min or so, replace battery , reboot oh look no pswds odd huh.... some M/bs have a jumper you can switch, but right off hand I cant tell you which exact mb you have or the jp to switch... you can look up the mb specs but honestly the cmos bat remove and reinstall is ususally the fast way...

Don't change the HD, ask your friend for the original software installation CD's and reinstall the OS. Then you'll have no problems. Good Luck!

You should have been given the OS X CD, use it to do a clean install.

If you didn't get one, ask them for it.
