I've heard people say and have read, that you should defragment your PC, once a week and I don't know if I should, if it says it's not needed. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

I was on my PC and it just went dead. I have an HP Pavilion not more than 3 years old. There is a small green light on the back of the PC that is flashing, but when I press the power button nothing happens.

There was a thunder and lightning storm in my area when I was using the PC. I have the PC and all other equipment plugged into a surge protector. Everything else that is plugged into the surge protector is working but the PC is not. I unplugged the PC from the surge protector and plugged it directly into the wall outlet but it still doesn't work.
What is that little green flashing light in the back?
Is there anything I can do to get my PC running again?

Please help.

I had a comptuer that died.. I then got a new computer and added the old harddrive as an axillliary drive. Now, on the this old harddrive there were multiple users and one of them was password protected.. and when I tried to access the password protected user files it said access denied.. and there was no way to put in a password. So I got this software that allowed me to copy those protected files.. but now I want to delete those old files without reformatting the entire disk.. is there any way to do this?

I have been using a Mac at work which has 89 hertz refresh rate...it is a delight on the eyes...This is an old Mac. I am about to buy a computer and would like to match this but don't even know where to start...it seems as if no new models allow for adjusting the refresh rate. Do any of you know how this can be done or what is the best way to get a computer that is adjusted for sensitive eyes?

My computer system information says that I have a Total Physical Memory of 261,424 KB, Available Physical Memory of 61,604 KB, and Total Virtual Memory of 892,412 KB. What does this mean? I was under the impression that I need at least 256 MB of RAM to run Windows XP (I have the program) and I presently have Windows 2000. Can anyone enlighten me?

How to i get Vista to display dual monitors correctly.
The wallpaper doesnt go straight accross it just clones the wallpaper on each monitor as if they were both their own desktop.

The only settings i have are tile full and center. None of these options display the picture across the desktops.

Hi,

I'm a new member of this exciting site. Here follows my first question. I wish everyone the best of luck and success.

Most motherboards come with an on board video capabilities. Under what circumstances do I need to add an external video card ?

To be more specific, If I purchase a motherboard that uses the G33 Intel Chipset (comes with graphics accelerator) such as the ASUS P5K-V, what would I need an additional Video card for ? What capabilities does it add to functionality ?

Thanks,

Steve

Alright its time to get me a new comp!!

Right now i have

windows me, ~380MB ram, 25gb HD, 4mb video-card ram-ness whatever, a dying sound card, CDRW, DVD-ROM

one im lookin at has..

Gateway Refurbished Intel Desktop Computer - Intel Pentium D 820 2.8GHz, 1GB DDR2, 320GB SATA HDD, DL DVD±RW, DVD-ROM, Flash Media Reader, TV Tuner, Wireless LAN, Windows XP Media Center

ive been looking for a new comp for about 4 years now.. and this looks like an incredible deal to me..

Does it really make a difference if its refurbished or not?

So I got tired of having to hear my PC's fans rev like nuts after hours of playing Halo, so I decided to buy an expansion slot fan to alleviate the situation. I am concerned about the positioning of the fan; since the fan blows air out of the PC, wouldn't it be harmful to have it sucking air from the heatsink?

To illustrate, which of these configurations would allow maximum cooling?

Config A)

Config B)

My PC is currently in configuration B, as I figure that having some space between the graphics card and the fan would be beneficial.

Also, could anyone recommend some GPU heat measuring software? I currently use SIW for system info, but it only detects my hard drive temp. sensors

I just started running a program and the hard drive was working hard and then BAM power goes out for about 30 seconds. I try to boot up again and I get a blue screen after the windows xp picture comes up and its about to boot to the desktop. Ive tried a normal boot, last know good config, and each safe mode boot but it goes to a blue screen then tries to reboot again. Is my computer's hard drive destroyed? Is there anything I can do?

I don't know what my video card is but I can tell you else is in my system.

OS:Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP2
RAM:256
Processor:Intel Celeron 1.70gHz
HD:52.9 Gigs

I already changed the performance in the System Properties in the Advance tab to Adjust to best performance. I'm thinking about getting a 512 Ram card built just for this motherboard. The motherboard can hold up to 1 gig of RAM. Its by Dell. The Dimension 2350 model.

I'm in need of a new graphics card and my motherboard with just a regular PCI-Bus slot can't handle any sufficient cards.

I need to know how to do the following:
*How to find the necessary components on my computer for a new motherboard. (i.e. How to find out if I need to buy an AMD or Intel motherboard)
*Where to buy the necessary motherboard I need+service installation.

Thanks for your time and help!

In my comps system properties the AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Prosessor 3500+ says that it runs at 2.20ghz ,though when loading hl2 lost cost, steams performance warning states that its running at 1.0ghz. The game play is poor but thats due to the nvida geforse 6150le. upgrading to 7300gs just hope its works. Also if i was to go in and out of the system properties the processer reading will change from 2.20ghz to 1.0ghz?? why is that?

This is what I have:

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.00GHz 1.98 GHz
Memory (RAM): 767MB
Video Card: NVidia GeForce FX 5200
Sound: Creative SB Live! Series

I am running Windows Vista. Before I did have Windows XP but I didn't have the actual copy (it was my ex's computer) so upgraded so I could have a copy of it. No bugs so far but my video games run significantly worse with it. Any suggestions that don't involve uninstalling Vista?
