I just started running a program and the hard drive was working hard and then BAM power goes out for about 30 seconds. I try to boot up again and I get a blue screen after the windows xp picture comes up and its about to boot to the desktop. Ive tried a normal boot, last know good config, and each safe mode boot but it goes to a blue screen then tries to reboot again. Is my computer's hard drive destroyed? Is there anything I can do?

Have you thought about using the repair console?

Put your XP disk into your CD drive and restart your system. This will start the XP installation process. When you come to the screen that asks if you want to install XP or if you would like to “Repair” XP, choose Repair. This will open the repair console command prompt. At the prompt, type: chkdsk /r. (There is a space between the k and the /. Now hit “Enter”. The repair should now start. Allow it to run until it stops. This can take some time, so be patient.

If all goes well, XP will replace any and all missing operating system files.

insert your XP cd boot to it.
once it finishes loading choose the repair utility.
this will bring you into a DOS environment
you will need to choose your primary partition(usually enter 1)
and know your local administrator password (if you have one)
once in type "chkdsk /r" (without the quotes)
It will check the disk and attempt to repair any damaged sections

Purchase a multiplug outlet surgeprotecter. That should keep that from happening.
