im probably getting an XFX 650i Motherboard or ASUS P5N-SLI, dualchannel 2 gigs of ram at 800mhz. i think that would go good with a quad.

4GB of RAM is by no means at all a must right now as one guy said. If you are just looking at gaming, quads are not really all that necessary. Having said that, you are right the Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz will be down to under $300, which is not too bad for a processor. The way I would look at it is first invest in a high quality video card, then if you have enough money left, go for the quad, if not a good Core 2 Duo will do just fine.

As every year last months of the year is the best time to by a new computer cause December and January is time for the companies to come back with something new and....expensive!!
I thing that quad 6600 is a very good choice but if you want to spend a little more of your money go for the Quad 6700...and to power up your pc a good motherboard and 4GB of ram is a must ...
Well tou have plenty of time to decide...
Good luck...

You know why they're dropping the price? The new dual-core line's coming out, code-name Penryn. Supposed to be faster, due to higher clock speeds and larger cache, and more energy efficient. If you decide not to wait, I would go with the core 2 you mention.
