My brother, in an attempt to keep the family off the computer changed the voltage switch on the back but now that its back to what it should be the computer won't turn on. I'm afraid he may have damaged the power supply. When the on button is pressed nothing at all happens. Any suggestions?

So if you had say 100 PC's to inventory, and the memory type and speed is one part of the record I would need a software that will pull memory information from the system and may supply me with a result like :
This is PC2100 DDR2 mem , (okkkk I'll pay for it if it's not free) lol

I'm looking into getting a new computer (desktop, not laptop) and I'm tired of all the BS that goes with windows. Are Apple/Mac computers better at fighting viruses, spyware etc? Are there any major compatability issues?

You know, everyone I talk to tells me: Do not buy a Dell - they suckkkkkk Do not buy a Dell - they suckkkkkk Do not buy a Dell - they suckkkkkk Do not buy a Dell - they suckkkkkk Do not buy a Dell - they suckkkkkk Do not buy a Dell - they suckkkkkk Do not buy a Dell - they suckkkkkk

Well, at work, we use Dells. I have had this Dell pc for 4 years. It handles PDS, Microstation, AutoCAD, PDMS and Ribas all at the same time and mighty fine. It never crashes, it takes upgrades like a charm, and it is still super fast and never stalls on me.

So, am I missing something? Do I click where it says "Buy" finally?

i goot up this morning and tried to start my pc up (dell dimension 4700) and all i got was 6 beeps nothing else , monitor/mouse and keyboard wouldnt work at all, re tried several times, even took apart the tower and took the ram out and video card etc and cleaned everything but still nothing, went to try again this afternoon, and i heard a loud swoosh (sounded like a jet of air) and the pc booted up fine .

anyone got an idea as what this could be ?

for some reason im thinking the master hard drive is beginning to fail , dont ask me why its just a guess, but also i think it could be something to do with the pc temp gauge and the fan somehow keeping the pc not running .

if you have any idea's or links i would be happy to look at those solutions , mnay thanks, your hero bsd

1. I have a Compaq EVO D500 SFF. There's only room for one internal hard drive so please don't tell me just buy another one and place in a free slot.

2. The computer is a Pentium 4 using a 60GB hard drive with 1GB of RAM. The computer is using Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 as its operating system.

A. How large of an internal hard drive can I install onto this computer in terms of GBs??? 100GB? 120GB? 200GB?

B. How does one know which type of hard drive to get? Is there somewhere on the computer that tells me to get IDE, SATA, ATA ???? is there a program on Windows 2000 that lets you know this pertinent information?

C. Are there any recommendable, legit websites offering free info on hard drives and FAQs? a site that will tell me exactly what type of hard drive goes with a certain model of computer no matter it's age?

I want a new graphics card to use on the computer which I am building with a pentium D processor, i also want directx 10 so I can play crysis with it cos i have windows Vista- a reliable and well known site is ok (not something ebay) but i can't find any in the UK except for microdirect which ain't too reliable. The best option would be a real life shop( not online) or a reAL LIFE SHOP WITH A WEBSITE. If anybody knows any good ones around kingston or New Malden or something it would be great.

I put all my dollars in processor and mobo, as RAM, PSU, DVD and HDD will all be upgraded or will (almost deffinately) expire. If I have time for gaming in teh future, I'll update the video card. Rate my choices...what you'd do differently...whether you'd go with a different format (e.g., agp not pci express, etc).

Hello, I have a HP Intel 2 gz 256 mg that I recently bought a 512mb 3200 ram stick for. The new ram works great and the PC recognizes it, but I cannot get both sticks to run together. If I put the 256 in the secondary slot and the 512 in the primary, the PC doesnt turn on. But both the 256 in the primary and the 512 in the primary alone work great... Is it possible that they are not compatable? Both work fine alone but not together. Or is it most likely that my secondary slot is bad...
