You know, everyone I talk to tells me: Do not buy a Dell - they suckkkkkk Do not buy a Dell - they suckkkkkk Do not buy a Dell - they suckkkkkk Do not buy a Dell - they suckkkkkk Do not buy a Dell - they suckkkkkk Do not buy a Dell - they suckkkkkk Do not buy a Dell - they suckkkkkk

Well, at work, we use Dells. I have had this Dell pc for 4 years. It handles PDS, Microstation, AutoCAD, PDMS and Ribas all at the same time and mighty fine. It never crashes, it takes upgrades like a charm, and it is still super fast and never stalls on me.

So, am I missing something? Do I click where it says "Buy" finally?

I would say go for Dell. They have great top of the line computers that last long and are cheaper than other computer brands when customizing. I have had a Dell Desktop for about 2-3 years and it still works fine. I have never upgraded it, besides getting an additional hard drive. The people who say Dells suck probably never owned one, didn't use it right, or their friends probably told them.

Five years ago, Dell was considered the premier computer manufacturer. But things change!!! What people are telling you is exactly what people have been telling me now, but most of the negative image comes from customer service hassles with poor English speaking Indians. Now understand me. I am an Indian myself and am proud of the economic development that is taking place in my home country. But, considering that dell carries majority of its consumer sales from US and other English speaking countries, they need to find people that can effectively communicate with us. If they can't, then train them better.

My dad also uses a $2000 dell laptop for work. When I occasionally use it at home, it works a heck a lot better than the 3-year old laptop I have. But, keep in mind that the dell computers that you are using at work are being nurtured by your company's IT department that is most likely getting business support from a place in US, which is why you are experiencing little signs of aging and no crashes. Business computers are generally near top-of-the-line configured when purchased so that they can last and those computers are not being used for surfing youtube, sharing photos, playing games, and installing all kinds of other programs found on the internet. That taxes on the life of the computer. You .

Bottom line: As a consumer, while their computers itself may be great, the extra aggravation when dealing with their customer service may not be worth it. Until they show signs of improvement (wont be at least for a couple of years) consider buying elsewhere.

You have your fan boys out there, as well as the people that like to choose products and say how bad they are without even using them, or they base their information on bad experience with an old or pourly configured PC. Ask the people "What should I buy then?" and see if they are just passing on bad information given to them by a fan boy of a specific type of computer.

All computers suck though generally Dell has a decent quality of product. The default warranty tech support over the phone sucks though, I'd suggest upgrading the warranty to get better support.

I've used just about every manufacturer out there, and fixed just about every type of PC on the market from the past 10 years, and I have to say, I'd rather work inside of a Dell than most other PCs.

The trick is, no matter what PC you are getting, don't skimp, get enough memory, big enough hard drive, and a decent warranty or you won't be happy with whatever you get no matter what company you buy it from.
