Hello, I have a HP Intel 2 gz 256 mg that I recently bought a 512mb 3200 ram stick for. The new ram works great and the PC recognizes it, but I cannot get both sticks to run together. If I put the 256 in the secondary slot and the 512 in the primary, the PC doesnt turn on. But both the 256 in the primary and the 512 in the primary alone work great... Is it possible that they are not compatable? Both work fine alone but not together. Or is it most likely that my secondary slot is bad...

Thanks for the replys. As stated although the 3200 is compatable with my motherboard, it came with a 2700 so that is why they dont work together. Thanks for the help.

U have to check your motherboard memory configurations for 64 128 256 512 & 1GB into DIMM sockets.

Installing DDR DIMMs other than the recommended configurations may cause memory sizing error or system boot failure. Strongly recommend to your motherboard memory configuration specification.

In Dual channel configurations, install only identical the same type and size DDR DIMMs for each channel and with same CAS latency otherwise your system may run in a lower frequency.

For optimal compatiability, recommend same memory modules from the same vendor and the approved list vendor by your motherboard.

Lastly, make sure that the memory frequency matches the CPU FSB. Refer to your motherboard manual.

Or else, it is a faulty memory stick and get it for 1 to 1 exchange from the vendor. Most memory vendors provide life time warranty.

You didn't mention that you tried the 512 in the Primary slot and the 256 in the secondary slot.

Many older PC's require that the larger RAM stick be in the primary slot. Give this a shot.

Hope this helps.

They are probably not the same ram type, you cannot run PC3200 and PC2100 ram together for example. But they will both work installed by themselves. You can however install different size ddr ram chips, such as 1 - 512 meg chip and 1 - 256 meg chip, but they have to be the same type ram (same frequency).

They are too far off to work but more noteworthy when you put 2 different speeds in your computer it will only run as fast as the slowest ram stick...So you would be forcing the pc3200 to run at whatever such as 100 or 333
