Well, DX10 cards are out already- I don't know about the supposed price cuts on the 22nd but that might be significant.
By the way, I wouldn't make AM2 a foregone conclusion. The Core 2 Duo E4300 was pretty cheap, last I checked... Of course if you're getting an unbeatable deal on an X2 5000+, then go for it :)

There is always new technology coming out. If you keep waiting for the next big thing to become available, then you will never upgrade your computer.
The only thing I know of that is coming out is quad core processors.

Just a little hint, Intel is having a massive price drop on the 22nd of July. If you're doing a completely new ungrade and build, I'd be waiting on that. Q6600's (Quad Cores) are going to be like $275. C2D's are going to be under $200.
