I was on my PC and it just went dead. I have an HP Pavilion not more than 3 years old. There is a small green light on the back of the PC that is flashing, but when I press the power button nothing happens.

There was a thunder and lightning storm in my area when I was using the PC. I have the PC and all other equipment plugged into a surge protector. Everything else that is plugged into the surge protector is working but the PC is not. I unplugged the PC from the surge protector and plugged it directly into the wall outlet but it still doesn't work.
What is that little green flashing light in the back?
Is there anything I can do to get my PC running again?

Please help.

More than likely your power supply could not handle the slight spike from the thunderstorm. Although you have a surge protector there are other avenues a static surge can enter,,.ie,..the cable/dsl modem through the ethernet cable or telephone modem if on dialup. If the flashing light is on the back of the power supply it is telling you the circuit breaker has been tripped in the unit. POWER SUPPLIES ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY FOR LIGHTNING OR SURGES,....ONLY DEFECTS IN MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP! Lightning is an "act of god". Find a local computer shop that has a power supply tester and can plug the master motherboard whip into it to see if it has shorted out.

If you are on dial-up, remove the modem from the computer to check if it boots without it. A burnt modem will short connections thru the PCI slots on the motherboard.

Your power supply might have gone bad or gotten fried. Contact your manufacturer and if it's still under warranty they will fix it for free.
