When trying to put in E6400 into its socket on MSI P6N-SLI motherboard, in the manual it said to lower the load plate and then lightly to push load level to secure the CPU, but i had to press a bit hard to secure it under hook...did I just mess up my CPU/MOBO?!?!

You should be fine unless you heard the motherboard crack or can see visible breakage. You;d be surprised how strong the motherboards actually are.

the first time I put a cpu in my 775 board, it took a little more pressure than i was comfortable with to lock the cpu in the socket.
as long as you lined up the notches, and very carefully locked the socket, you probably didn't hurt anything.

Probably not, there is a little resistance when you are latching it. As long as the CPU is seated in the whole way, you should be fine.
