I have chosen the components for the computer I will build this fall when I get money (perhaps updating the models a bit, but prices should remain the same) - it will be $2200 and more than I ever need. You will be throwing away so much money, buying a computer that powerful - you will never ever use it to even a tenth of its capacity (unless you are just buying crappy components that are very expensive).

Here's my design:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3400620AS 400GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM $120 3x
Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6700 - Retail $318
ASUS P5B-Plus LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail $139
Kingston HyperX 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model KHX6400D2/1G $72 3x
SAPPHIRE 100186L Radeon X1950XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 VIVO HDCP Video Card $199

$17,000 on a computer that will be worth $8000 or less next year, you are either nuts, your parents are rich, or both.

$1800 - $2500 will buy a very good gaming computer.

I suspect next year when you get your drivers license and you think how that $17000 could have bought you a really nice used car versus the soon to be obsolete computer you bought, you will realize that you made a stupid decision.

I also suspect in another 2-3 years when you start college you will think how handy that $17000 would have been if you didn't spend it on cr@p.

$17,000 is a new car, or a down payment on a house. What the hell are you thinking?

I have an Asus Gaming Laptop and will run all games on recommended or better resolutions with no lag & I only paid 2,000 for it.

That leaves 15,000 to boot.

If you really want to be selfish and get the best gaming desktop I would go to www.Voodoo.ca

Holly cow, you must have chose every expensive option when you configured that computer. The base area-51 model will allow you to play pretty much every pc game available currently. And if a new game comes out that requires something else you can always buy the upgrade part(s) required.

Alienware is a rip off for money, i suggest you stay away from them... they're awesome computers.. but when you start customizing they just charge stupid prices.

I'd say you want to spend around $2000 on a decent PC for gaming

First of all, I think that Alienwares are great for games. Second, I'd say that for the average consumer a gaming computer should run you from $999-$3000, depending on whom you're getting it from. I hope that helps.

Good luck!
