I was wondering if I could use the memory sticks out of a computer that the motherboard is junk in. Would I be able to use the memory in a different computer without messing anything up?
I am being cheap, I know, but if I dont ask I am always going to wonder.

A good question, and one that confuses a lot of people. The answer... maybe!

As all the others have said the memory needs to be compatible. So how do you tell? Your motherboards will tell you. Since you're going to have to open both machines anyway, take a look at the motherboards and find the make, model and serial number. Just punch the make and model into google or the web site for the maker of the board. You'll probably end up with a picture of your motherboard along with a lot of the specs, including memory details - number of pins, memory type etc. Do that for both boards and you'll get your answer.

It will also tell you whether the memory in adjacent slots on the m/board need to match... this is different with new machines than the older ones.

It's hard to be specific about this sort of question (sorry). There are so many variations that the best I can give you is a few pointers about how to find the answer for yourself.

Oh, as for the serial number on the motherboard... some manufacturers vary even their boards without changing the model number. They don't like to make life easy for us mere mortals. You can look up the manufacturer's site and try putting the serial number in... you might get a very detailed answer... or nothing at all. Never hurts to try though.

Hey you're not being cheap... Reduce - Reuse - Recycle! You're being environmentally responsible;-)

Some is interchangeable, some is not.

It really all depends on what type of memory was used by both the boards.

Read the label on the memory from the bad motherboard and see what kind of memory it is, then do a search for it.

Then you can find out if it is the correct type for the board you currently have. If it is, then go ahead and install it.

If not, your best bet would be to try to sell it on ebay.

Yes you can do that but keep in mind all memory sticks can be different speeds and the motherboard will need to be compatible to the sticks and if you mix the memory sticks it may not work as well as it is capable of running.for instance mixing a 1gb 3200 and a 1gb 2700 it may only recognize one or the other memory stick.

You can use the memory out of the old one if its the right kind. Do some research to find out.

Usually most parts are reusable.

The processor might not be reusable though.
