I have Windows XP Pro (genuine) with all updates and 1250mhz processor and 1gb memory.
Every time I turn my computer on, once it gets to the desktop with all programme's showing it freezes and i have to turn the power off and back on, and it always works the second time and loads up ok after windows preforms a "check disk", my file type is FAT2 If that means anything to you.
And the the other problem is that when it loads up, it always loads up to an account that is just called administrator instead of my account (paul) but when i go to log that one off, only my account (and guest account) is showing on the list, so i have to click on my name to load right, there isn't even an account just called administrator there??
Any help is much appreciated, thanks in advance

alright paul,i think your first problem may be your file system, its not as reliable as the ntfs file system and places more stress on your hard drive, you can change the file system to ntfs without affecting your windows os
go to command prompt(start>programs>accesories>command prompt)and type in C:\> CONVERT C: /fs:ntfs
it may take a while depending on the size of your hard drive but this will convert your drive to ntfs,..note:to go back to the fat32 file system you need to format your drive and using the dos command fdisk, you then need to delete the partiitons/drives and then make them active
you then need to go to control panel>user accounts and then use the option"change the way users log on and log off" this will let you choose your name as the default account to use when logging on
as for the first problem, right click my computer>advanced>start up and recovery>uncheck the box"automatically restart"then apply
the reason for the freezing of your desktop is due to a program used at start up,to find out which program this is you need to use the microsoft configuration utility,or better known as "msconfig"
go to start>run and type msconfig, then click on the start up tab, then deselect the programs in the start up that are not nessecary(adobe, winzip, realtek, ect)then press apply, you will then need to restart
it may be a case of trial and error until you find the program thats causing the freeze,if the freeze still occurs,re-enable the programs and deselect another, best way to do this is to write a list of all the start up programs and tick each one as you check them until you find the one thats causing the crash(freeze)
if its a anti-virus program then its best just to choose another anti-virus program
also run a anti-virus and anti-spyware scan to check for any malware
it may also be a good idea to boot up in safe mode(press f8 at start up) and see if the freeze happens then,if it dosent then its a good bet its either a driver problem or a start up item as these dont run in safe mode
give this a go paul and let me know if you require any more help
good luck mate!

FAT32 is the method Windows uses to store data. You can convert your file system to NTFS which is better.
Look in Event Viewer to see if it is recording an Error.
Start and then Settings and then Control Panel and double click on Administrative Tools and select Event Viewer. Select a section and especially the System section and double click on any Error to see what it has to say. There is a link to Microsoft for more information.
When Windows boots up you should be taken to a login screen if your account has a password. Normally the Administrator account should not be displayed. Make sure you (Paul) are an Administrator and also add a password to your account.

I agree re the advise about changing file formats from FAT 32 to NTFS as this allows more security and encryption. If you have the instruction book for the main board, check that everything is physically configured correctly. In particular ensure that the memory is inserted in the correct sockets, assuming 2x512Gb modules. Also a CPU upgrade is worth considering in any case as1250 Mhz is pretty slow now.

Hey, Don't worry every PC will act in same way if some third applications are installed.
Follow my Operation tips to resolve ur problem....
Operation 1:
1.install a good anti virus and scan u system including memory
2.I Prefer "NOD32 Anti virus System" for this kind of scanning.
3.Then you will be in Safe Side .
Still facing same problem
Operation 2:
1.Press "Windows+Run"
2.There in Run Enter the following words "msconfig"
3.And go to stat up tab, which is at top right in that small window
4.Then press "disable" which is at right corner
5.Now Press "Ok" your system leads to restart allow it.
6.after restarting it will show a message, then click on "Dont show this Message again"
7. Now ur Pc will work good as u know
Enjoy !!!!!!!

I had a similar problem once, so if all of these other suggestions fail, re-install Windows. When you do, be sure to set it up as an NTSF volume. This was suggested to me during a lenghthy conversation with Microsoft. If you do decide to reinstall Windows, be sure to back up all of your data, as reformatting the drive will wipe everything out.

How much RAM (Random Access Memory) does your PC have? You may have to many programmes running at once without you know: Go: Start -> Run -> msconfig -> Startup [tab] -> Then Click 'Disable All' Then you should restart and when a message box appears tick the box and close the window - otherwise it shall restart again.

Go to start menu and then to run, type in msconfig.exe it will bring up a window that shows what is running in background and whats loading on startup..Some of the stuff you can turn off if you don't need it starting on windows start-up.
